Mk2 polo for sale w/video now

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

I'm having to put my polo up for sale as i'm spending too much money and time on it instead of the mini

Gutted really though as i've finally got the niggles worked out and its going great and a hoot to drive! 8-)

its a 1983 polo which although is not 'mint' anymore, its definitely above average for a 25 year old car!

details...

'83 polo, with 1600 8v engine from a 1999 skoda felicia.

R6 bike carbs mounted on a custom made inlet manifold.

Stainless steel 4 branch exhaust manifold mated to a stainless system

which exits from passenger side just infront of rear wheel.

Holley electric fuel pump, regulated down to 1psi.

Coil relocated to plenum chaber

Custom stianless steel cover over plenum chamber.

4 speed gearbox from 1.1 polo (v. short ratios)

Polybushed

Mk1 Golf GTI front brakes, w/drilled disks

-60mm springs and uprated, shorter stiffer shocks.

14x6 'Zandvoort' alloys in white with 4 good tyres on (Eagle F1s and Michelins)

Polo Derby headlights and grille (standard round lights and debadged grille available also)

Corrado seats, black and good condition (no bolster rips!!) height adjustable

Stripped out rear, with black carpet. 6x9s in rear 'door cards' (stereo not included however... it doesn't belong to me :( )

Guages mounted in dash, (amps and oil press not currently hooked up, but volts is)

AutoMeter rev counter with shift light

EDIT: i've also got a set of 'track steels' with legal tyres on that i'll throw in also.

Lots of body mods... see pics...

Probably lots i've missed but if i remember then i'll add them.

It needed quite a bit to get it through its last MOT... a couple bits of welding were needed underneath, i replaced a cv boot, two flexi brake hoses, the rear shoes and everything else in the rear brake (all the springs etc), the front pads are very recent, i also had to replace a couple of the rigid brake lines, and the master cylinder was also replaced along with the brake light switch. Both front shocks were new, i used aftermarket stiffened, shortened shocks just like what was removed.

All of this is now done and its got 12 months MOT and should breeze through future MOTs also.

I've also put 6 months tax on it.

It goes really well! and there's still more potential from it with a rolling road session and some fine tuning. It will happily spin the wheels right through first second and third (and fourth if its wet). Its definately suprised a few people (including me!)

I'd like £1400 for it with the square lights fitted (rounds will be included also) or £1300 and i keep the square lights. Open to offers too!

I'll be at Plymouth Volksfest in it so you can see it there, but i'm availably most evenings and weekends.

Please PM me on this forum if you are interested.

bump 4 joel

Bump for douche

just to recap... this has 12months MOT and 6 months tax (minus about 3 weeks now admittadly  )

and i'm open to offers too.

and bump!

sorry to enquire... but what sort of power do u think this puts out? just curious... free bump for a fantastic motor!

not exactly sure as its not been RR'd, but going by mine and my brothers experience of other cars, we both think it could up at about 100 at the wheels. It proper shifts :D I'm going to the drags in it again this sunday :p

i won "Fastest VW" with this car today at a RWYB drag event :D i ran a 9.9 over the 1/8th mile.

just as a comparison, my mini which weighs about 50-60kgs less ran a 9.8 with 105hp at the wheels...

i've had a few people asking about more detail of the 'not mint' bits, and i appreciate that since its a national forum, some potential buyers may not want or be able to view the car without really commiting. Rather than pm them each back individually, i'll post up here.

the handbrake light seems to be intermittant. i've narrowed it down to a dodgy switch.

the front panel has had a prang (by previous owner!) and as a result could do with being replace, OR a bumper would hide the damage, i've just lived with it since it doesn't detract too much.

The nearside front wing also felt a little of the prang and had flexed some of the paint off. I've touched this in and its hardly noticable

The offside front wing has a small dent just infront of the vent and the rear of the arch has been bent in slightly and the paint cracked off.

There are a few little parking dents and scratches here and there

There is a small patch of rust at the bottom of the nearside A-pillar, and also a small bit on the offside rear arch behind the wheel.

The odometer/tripmeter has also become intermittant although the speedo still works fine.

Umm... a few chips on the red paint on the steering wheel... thats about it i think.

good points i forgot to mention...

It is de locked and has TOAD remote central locking fitted.

I've modified the gear linkage a little to elimiate some of the play, so it feels good now.

The brakes are actually decent!

It does the 1/8th mile in 9.9 seconds.

It gets to 60 in just under seven seconds.

It has just over 11months MOT and just over 5 months tax left on it...

Can't believe that nobody has bought this! so much fun 8-)

i think people need a ride in this to appreciate how much fun it is! :p

Get some videos up mate, particulary the speedo and drive by :ninja:

good plan. i'll have to do it without breaking any laws of course! i'll headin out in a bit. i'll get a mate to drive an i'll do some vids!

Aye dont break any laws.........

But do give it the beans!

i did a quick video yesterday of the speedo...

its what can, at best, be described as a 'shit video' but it was hard as hell trying to get the phone to stay somewhere where it could see the speedo. in the end i just held it in two fingers, with the steering wheel in the remaining fingers

just uploading it now...

here it is... i forgot to mention that its also on its side :D i'm great!

th_video-0013-1.jpg

hahah thats fucking bonkers.

How fast was that in the end i carnt work it out the speedo is having a fit. 60mph or 70?

haha, that was just a 'spirited' accelleration to 60. The road was a little damp in places

on a flat dry road, with warm tyres and pulling away in second, its possible to have nearly no wheelspin 8-)

Haha its an animal! Carnt wait to get get mine done.

bumps.

if i've missed out a reply to a pm, then please send again or lemme know on this thread please! i think i've doen em all :?

Whats it like on fuel? Very tempted to stick the girlfriends mk1 up for sale and snap this up

Whats it like on fuel? Very tempted to stick the girlfriends mk1 up for sale and snap this up

it varies hugely depending how you drive it... on a run up the M5 the other day i got 24-25mpgs, but around town with a heavy foot, it can drop to 17-18. Its hard to drive economically though as its so much fun  although if i had the self control its probably not too bad round town... you can use 4th gear from about 15mph 8-)

buuump :D
