Hi, due to lack of space and the fact that by the time I get round to doing it up it will be in a terrible state, we are reluctantly selling my Wife's Mk2 Coupe S , her first car - she is only the second owner (that we know anyway!)

Make: Polo

Model: Coupe S 1.3

Year/Reg: 1986 D

Mileage: circa 120,000 (it's covered up at the mo so can't see!)

MOT: No but I would put money on it passing easily - always used to

Tax: No - been SORN for the last year and a half

Good points: Good runner, still has all it's bits ie parcelshelf etc etc. Has had the fuel tanlk replaced (about 4 years ago) and the rear wheel arches done (about 7 years ago). When used it was a reliable little car and well loved. Low milage - when my wife bought it 12 years ago it has 50k on the clock and apparantly was owned by "a couple of little old ladies who just pottered around Lowestoft" . Engine is fine - have had a few leaks sorted out (gearbox seal was the last) and kept passing it's MOT first time! :-D

Bad points: Well, it is SORN as it started to cut out when stopping at junctions. Not much, but as we have two growing children space and safety were a consideration and we decided to get another car (with Air-con!) The interior is not bad except for worn sides to the front seats where you get in. There is a bit of rust on the door sills but not much elsewhere that I can remember (hey - I'm good at selling this!). It has been in our garage for a bit, but now under cover on the drive, and hence it's not going to survive without some attention, which I haven't got time for. It's tornado red - so you can guess what the sun has done to that.

Price: whatever you think it's worth . You'll have to have a car trailer/transporter as it's SORN and can't be towed.

Shows the little bit of rust and minimal interior damage - really only the driver's seat.

Decided on a price of around £150 (or more if you like!)

I've borrowed a trickle charger and will try and get her going later (the car I mean).

Trickle charger didn't work - the battery is completely dead. However I have managed to borrow a spare battery, and after cleaning the points in the distributor cap it started first time!!! :-D Not bad considering it hasn't been started in 10 months (was last August).

Going to put it on eBay now as haven't had any firm leads, so I will update if it goes . Cleared the car of junk so the eBay pics are a little better (I also maneuvered the car on the drive to take the pics - no stuck clutch/brakes or anything! They don't make 'em like that any more!)

how long did you trickle charge it for? trickle charging is for keeping it topped up while not used. you need to do a highrate charge for a matter of hours :-D

Ah - that will be why it didn't work!

Anyway, I have just sold it (finally) and as it has a working battery it's not such an issue anymore.

Thanks for the info though, wasn't aware of that.
