Door wont lock

Featured Replies

I've just taken my mk4 16v doorcard off to try and get my passenger door working again. The problem is that when i put the key in it

will turn in the lock but the door pin doenst move and wont lock the door. If i central lock the door from the drivers side it locks the

passenger side no problem. So its the barrel not engaging somewhere.

Problem is i can hardly bloody see the mech because its behind a bit of door metal. How does the mech come loose/come out so that

i can see whats going on?

Thanks 8-)

Hello Dublass,

I suspect the problem lies with the eccentric carrier and paddle. You do not have to remove the doorcard. Right:

Open door.

Look at level of the handle at the inner surface of the door (ie where the actual latch is)

You'll see a single torx bolt at this level.

Undo and remove bolt.

Grasp door handle from outside and push towards the front of the car and lift off to remove barrel and assembly.

Disassemble and inspect.

I suspect one of the parts there has snapped.

Buy replacements direct from VW.

Refit.
