Should i DIY matt black it?

Featured Replies

I'm really tempted to go for a matt black respray myself, the cars not worth that much to me and i will be keeping it for a while

Anything is better than the nasty white paint at the moment, the rust needs sorting anyways, think i should go for it? anyone got pictures of it done before

if you want to, you just need to realise its gonna be worth pretty much nothing if you do!

you'll also need to realise that 1 can won't be enough cos paint isn't stretchy lol get 8 cans cos you should use 6 or so painting the car (big cans) and a couple spare because things like petrol spills will pull the paint off if it's not laquered. go for bonnet flames too rofl

i think i best just leave it as it is haha bonnet flames, oh id look so cool.......

If I was on my computer i'd post up a pic of my mate's mk1 fiesta all colored in yellow primer with blueberry colored bonnet flames. Oh the coolness... :S

just a thought that crossed my mind, i'm not guna do it though haha

I would say turn your DIY efforts to trying to sort out some of the rust.

Practice will make perfect, if your not arsed about the car then why not use it as something to practice on. Might as well teach yourself something instead of just painting it matte black!

that was the plan, i have done rust repair before, so hopefully it will be a better attempt at it this time haha i realise the matt black idea was stupid now

Stupid?

Didn't look that bad!

that dont look to bad actually, i like it, just that person saying it would be worth nothing if i did it put me off the most

^^^ which is very true but it don't look that bad

Yeah but mark 3s and mark 4s are completely different, mark3s in black look quite cool!

Paint it camo brown!!!!!

At least do soemthing better than matt black. It always looks patchy and grim unless done by a pro and even then it is a bastard to keep clean. Would like to see a stencil mix of camo colours, brown, green, beige all in matt.

If you are going to do something like that try something new. Buy a few a few litres of paint from fascintaing finishes and then hire a cheapy ass spray gun and get to work with some camo stencil goodness :-)

If i had a rusty mk4 that i didn't like as it was rusty thats what i would do. Coupled with some steelies pained to match.

matt black is only nice on old cars or when sprayed by a pro and finished evenly. Satin black mk4 somewhere that always looks good but it has had muchos dollar spent on it.

Do it in something other than black!!

I was thinking of doing my MK3 in matt blue 8-)

camouflage FTW!

in the words of fat chef jamie oliver, 'try something new!'

matt black is old hat, been done to death. white mk4s can look really nice with a bit of love

satin looks fookin amazing on that polo!

Imo theres a big difference between a 'show car' being satin black and someone just painting any old Polo satin black.

That black one works because its a whole package.

My old satin/matte shitter was a nightmare to sell on. I basically gave the car away and got my money back for the suspension I put on it!!

mine was satin. I blame Guy for not being able to spray! lmao.
