SOLD - 2001 Y Silver 3-door Polo Match

Featured Replies

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Polo Match (1.4 8v)

Year/Reg: 2001 / Y-reg

Mileage: 66187

Features: 1.4 litre engine (60bhp), power steering, ABS, air con, twin airbags, original Beta head unit with 4 speakers, Reflex Silver metallic paint with colour coded bump strips and electric mirrors, grey/blue cloth upholstery.

Good points: 1 lady owner - My wife's owned this car from new and I've been driving it daily since last summer, doing about 450 motorway miles a week. Nobody has ever smoked in this car, so it doesn't stink!

Full VW main dealer service history and receipts, except the last couple of bits which were done by an independent VW specialist (SJB Autotech in Basingstoke). Was serviced in February by SJB. Had new coil pack fitted, rear washer pipe cleaned out, new windscreen wiper blades all round. Had new cambelt, new water pump, new brake fluid done by SJB, and new back box done by VW at previous service in 2007.

Free MOTs for life at any Martins VW dealership. Seriously.

MOT and tax til April 09

Engine starts first time every time, and pulls well (as well as can be expected for an 8v :)). Great commuting car, handles well, plenty fast enough for motorway driving and overtaking. This would also make an ideal base car for someone interested in modding. Drop it on some coilovers, stick some nice alloys on, smooth the side strips and bumpers and it'll look mint.

Good interior space, can get a lot of stuff in the back with the seats down (eg mountain bike, 4x 17x7.5 alloy wheels with tyres, weekly shopping, bootload of garden waste for the tip, etc). It's even good for ferrying 4 burly lads (plus designated driver) for short trips back from the pub. Despite all this activity the interior is in good nick, with no wear to the seat fabric/bolsters and only a couple of minor scuffs to the usual bits of plastic (footwells, bottoms of doors, in the boot). Has had VW rubber front mats from new so the carpets are mint. Mats can be included if required (they're originally from a Golf GTD IIRC).

Cheap to insure and tax and gives more than 400 miles to a 40 litre tank (46mpg+) if driven sensibly.

Absolutely no rust. Not a bit of it. Apart from that number plate screw which now has a new white cap to cover it ;) And there's still 5 years of the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty left on the car, too.

It's on Firestone F-590 tyres with a couple of mm tread left on the rears, fronts are legal (passed MOT a couple of weeks ago) but could do with replacing soonish.

Bad points: Front seats and driver's headrest have a few stains which will be cleaned as soon as I can borrow my mate's Vax to go over the upholstery. I've cleaned these up a bit since the pictures were taken and they look better but I need to finish them off.

The usual stone chips on the front (pictured), one in particular on the plastic bumper where the paint has started to come away a bit.

There's a stone chip on the passenger side of the windscreen. Been there for a while and hasn't got any worse. Perfectly legal as it doesn't obscure the driver's view.

Nasty looking scratch on the bump strip and panel above the rear NS wheel (pictured), where I had an argument with a brick pillar in a car park. These panels are all galvanised so there's no rust. Have had a quote of "about 150" from Halfords and 200 from ChipsAway to get this fixed.

As mentioned, needs new front tyres soonish.

Bit cheeky maybe, but here are a couple of smoothed silver 6n2s owned by other Club Polo members just to give you an idea of what's possible.

I've been through our filing boxes and found all the receipts. Everything's there, even the original purchase receipt and all VW/dealer documentation.

Also listed on Pistonheads - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/508718.htm (which is playing silly buggers at the moment, so link may not work right now)

Oh yeah, and it's got free MOTs for life at any Martins VW dealership :)

Would be up for a P/X?

Probably not, mate, I've already got a GT daily. Want to shift the 6n2 cos we've got more cars than space!

I thought you were getting a TT anyway?

Post bank holiday bump. No longer working in Leatherhead, only in Basingstoke now. Had a bit of interest so keep it coming!
