back -to- blacked bumpers...heat gun style.

Featured Replies

i'd heard heating bumpers up with a heat gun restores the colour....well it does. not as good as new but far better than before....they ook better in real life as they look a bit dull but they look fantastic.......and for those of you who think you know the car better than me..the orange indicators are back on but have been for about a month. prefer them to clear but think its just cos its a change.

By the way don't want to hear 'needs to go lower' 'needs german plates' or anything else cos it doesn't.

It did suit the german plates though...

Looks spot on IMO, really couldn't be better. And an HnR 60/40 kit probably brings the underneath of the Mk3 down quite low anyway, I wouldn't call your car tractor height

nah road height is perfect for looks/ useability. german plates look good but they arnt worth the fuck on from the police and the fact EVERYONE has them.

thats impressive! what a differance what did you use to do that would the missus hair drier work?

ha ha no mate a heat gun unless your missus strips her scalp every morning.

needs to go twice as low on ats classics.

Nah, looks sweet that. Was it hard to do, and did it take long?

i wouldnt say it was hard. if your a bit special you might fuck it up and melt the bumpers. takes a while yeah. did it over two nights.

was that including doing the rear too?

nope. haven tdone it yet but it isnt that bad anyway.

Hey spaniel, that looks great!

And I really prefer it with the british plates. Glad you changed back

I FUCKING LOVE YOUR CAR

looks great bud :)

I did my bumpers with a blow torch Lolz, Lasted about 4 months if my memory serves me right

Black spray paint has been the best so far

Not a bad effort- shoe polish (black obviously) alos does quite a good job, it is quite messy though.

Orange indicators suit it well, set of headlamp protectors to finish it off?

8-)

I've tried boot polish before and oil...and back to black...expensive stuff and cheap...makes no difference I've found. this seems to be the best option so far. time will tell i suppose then its new bumpers

head lamp protectors? mmmm never been a fan really think they look a bit tacky. not really into all the oem plus options think they are over kill and especially on a g40 don't look or keep with the sporty theme. plus the cost of head lamp protectors...i'd rather smash the lamp than a headlamp protector

It come up well, especially if those photos were taken without any 'bumper care' stuff on. I think i might try this on my side rubbing strips, as they're practically white.

I gave up on my front one, replaced it with a brand new one instead. Shame it doesn't fit that well. The old one had been buffed and coated that many times, i'd worn the grain off.

make sure you take the side strips off though! i can see burnt paint. :-p

lovely car! so clean!

cheers for the kind comments.

i'd recommend this method of doing the bumpers to anyone!

bear in mind guys i drive this car every single day! so bumpers fade. and i rarely wash it now. wahsed it for the first time in a month after i fitted these bumpers. cleaning is NOT something i do/like to do/or care about.

is that lass in you car trying to avoid her pic being taken

get pics blasted up haha

Looks sweet it that last pic!

Oranges finish it right off. I've alway been a fan of orange indicators though. First Polo I had was the only one I had with clears!

Have you tried Meguiars All Season Dressing ?
