i dont think it has been the 20vt turbo has been done in europe theres know one activly on the forum who has done it and alot of people will be against you doing it due to the weight and making it noise heavy

Have you measured the engine bay as I'm not sure it will fit, and you will need custom drive shafts and other bits to fit it all together

Theres someone doing it to there 6n though

Without trying to sound like a knob, I think its safe to say that is never going to happen.

i keep getting told this from people but no one actully knows cos it has been done b4

but i have seen done to a mk1

Lots of people have put many different different engines into a equally large array of cars...it doesn't mean that it was easy/cost effective/remotely worthwhile.

There is a 1.8 20vT in the front of a Mk3 and another with it in the rear. Both required mammoth amounts of work to make the engines fit with a lot of drastic chopping (chassis legs :o) and fabricating. There was a Mk2 Coupe that someone attempted to fit an Audi V8 into the rear, that fizzled out and was never completed though? There are a couple of mid/rear engine Mk1 Derby's...a 1.8 and a Hyabusa powered one too.

I don't think that any of the above would be particularly good to drive in anything other than a straight line...there might be a few exceptions to prove the rule, but generally big engines in small light weight cars don't work well...especially if they are fitted in the wrong end of the car.

I guess at the end of the day it depends on what you want to do...if you just want a VR6 Polo then it's a pretty time consuming/expensive vice to have...just as long as you know what it is you are going to end up with.

The Polo engine mounts would need to be removed and the cambelt side repositioned and welded up. Custom subframe mounts would have to be made and possibly a lengthened front end. The bonnet would have to be bulged to allow for the extra length of the tall block. You would also have to use the Golf struts and steering rack which would mean you would have to run widetrack which opens up a whole new can of worms.

Lots and lots of agro.

Rear mount for the win.

what about 4 wheel drive

4WD...brave or stupid? You'd need the complete running gear from something like a Syncro/Rallye Golf. You'd probably need the entire rear suspension set up...including the boot floor etc. so you could get the mounting points. It would be an even more mammoth task. Might as well space frame the entire car and just bolt Mk2 panels to it

With the money you'd spend on a Mk2 VR6 you could buy a proper car...add 4WD into the equation and you could prob. go buy a nice used BMW E46 M3 or an Evo

If you want a VR6 engined VW why not try a Mk3 Golf/Ventro/Corrado...or fit to the engine in something that'll take it with less effort...Mk2 Golf? Here's a 4 Motion Golf engine (essentially a 24v VR6) in a Mk2 Golf GTi. It's not exactly the same engine but you know a Mk2 Golf has a lot more room under the hood than an old Polo:

i can see the point you are makin but this is a project but i want to do to prove that i can do it but i wont b startin this project intill i get my mk 7 polo in 6 weeks time

but i want the strip the car rite down to the shell and work my up i have a couple of m8s who are happy to help includin one who is a head mechanic for bmw

u got ne more pics by the way

anything is possible if you are good enough at metal fabricating and have a knack for making square objects fit in round holes.

To be honest, we on here clearly don't have the skills to do it, so you're probably better off going and doing it, then coming back and proving us all wrong.

From what I've seen of VR6'd mk2 golfs, no way is that going to fit a polo engine bay.

As for 4wd, the way this is sounding, you're probably better off starting with the donor vehicle floorpan, taking the body off and putting the chosen body on. Given a full workshop, jigs, 2 or 3 truely expert fabricators, you should be able to turn it round in a couple of months, and by the time you've paid the fabricators, still have change from £30k.

why dont you just go and buy a good car in the first place? 8-):-o:badgrin: :p

i am i get my 1.4 se polo mk7 in 6 weeks

so why just use the $$$$$$$ from that and the $$$$$$ from this to get a really good car? 8-)8-)

I've seen a vr6 lump in a mk4 polo so anything is possible i was also told that i couldnt fit a 406 3.0 v6 24v in a 205 but i did a few years back with time and effort alot of sweat cuts and bruses and swearing and some money of course anything is possible never say never

if you insist on having a lairy breadvan , id look into making it rwd more chance of getting a fair sized lump under the hood and rwd might get the power down ?

stupid amounts of work either way...but anything can be done with enough ££££ and time

I know I've said this before, but why do so many people want to fit the VR6 engine into anything?

It really isn't a particularly good engine at all, the BHP per litre is quite poor for a "modern" engine and its very heavy too. Even in standard trim they are thirsty for what they are and apart from the nice sound they make haven't really got a lot going for them. They are also, prone to bore wear and many don't take big mileages.

They can and have been made to produce serious amounts of power with the aid of forced induction though, but this is an expensive route to take - particularly if you were to try and fit it all within the constraints of the mk2 Polo bodyshell.

I think lots of people get taken in by the noise they make. 'Cos it sounds fast they automatically think it must be fast, errr not so.

A bloke near where I work has a MK2 Golf fitted with a Corrado 2.9 engine which has apparently been on the rolling road showing just over 200 bhp. It really does sound the business, particularly with the performance exhaust system its got. After me showing interest in it and chatting to him, the bloke offered to take me for a blast - I think he was trying to impress me in all honesty. It didn't though, TBH I was a bit dissapointed.

Yeah it was pretty quick for a road car, but not "proper quick" like I would want.

ok all points have been noted what would be the best engine to put in then?

G40.

G40.

i want to do somthink a bit different everyone is doin the g40 conversion now

How long is a piece of string? You realy need to decide exacly what you are ultimately trying to achieve/prove do you want a drag car? a trackday car?
