tbh i don't mind going on road trips to get cars if they can be drove back, its just when they need trailering that things get complicated, trying to find a tailer, tow car ect ect. thats why this time i'm just paying a fat bloke in a flat bed to drag that shit home for me

Given that the inner rear quarter (panel that surrounds the fuel pipe) has completely gone. It could be repaired with alot of specialist welding,but its not worth it. The blue 86 shell isnt perfect,but is solid,straight and rot free (other than cosmetic). And its a non-sunroof. The Pug,Seat and Rover have been sold,and all my efforts are now to re-shell tornado with the blue one.

Thanks to Aron for bringing this car to attention - and thus bringing it to clubpolo It took under four hours to complete the 272 mile journey,on less than a tank of fuel - half the price of the train there. The pre-hydraulic engine is excellent - smooth,quiet and strong.. ..and will soon be available if anyone needs it. The gearbox is rough,though.

I gave him the full three ton,and didnt even look it over until i got to the garage. He needs the money more than i do,given the work that golf wants.. The Polo is mingin though,farm bike condition interior,and the MK1 Golf van steering wheel was comical..

Cant wait to see it shiny and pristine, those steels are awesome imo especially with the chrome centre caps still on them :)

I think those chrome centre caps were another victim of Golfitis.. I wasnt gonna use them anyway..

The ones its wearing appear the same as yours Aron,plastic and held on the bolts by metal springs. Comically about 10mm proud of the wheel.. I think they're the ones in the ebay photos,anyway. Those wheels are going in the skip. As is the tidy exhaust and the entire black/grey stripe interior with sports seats,that only have fair wear on the drivers bolster. All getting skipped.

I decided to give him the lot when i saw his Golf project. After all,the 85 (thought it was an 86,but was registered 01/10/85) has a brand spankin new fuel tank,too. Most get run into the ground after 100k but this has continued getting the money spent on it in all the right places,instead of being wasted on cosmetic tat.

There is a sad sacrifice in all this. A MK2 coupe S shell is going to be crushed,and its log book written off. And that after 4.5 years in my ownership. I feel like I've run over someones cat.. I'm tempted to re-shell the later plate because of the immense service history,all original books and labels etc. But with neither the original shell or engine,it wouldn't be valid.
