Basically just got back from my job interview, got the job I must add!

About to drop the girlfriend at college when I got stopped by a lil fiesta.

I have stopped you regarding no front number plate, yeah yeah mine have been delivered today so will be back on the car tonight.

Oh what do we have here, your rear wheels pertrude your arch by and inch or two, thats three points each I think.

So I said you think! He wasnt sure at all. Then an unmarked car turned up, noticed cop one staring at the wheels. He goes 'oooo they look good mate'

Then have a big discussion about them sticking out. Had to wait around for a traffic cop to come from Farnborough!

So two BMW Traffic cars turn up, we go through their lil law bible but there is NOTHING in their regarding wide wheels and pertruding!

Got told its common sence and that they can catch pedestrians if they are walking! (dont walk in the fucking road then)

Then they look over the car!

1) No number plate displayed front or rear (well rear is in the window)

2) wheels stick out

3) Rear lights are too dark!

4) Both front tyres are on the limit

5) both headlights are cracked!

Gave me a VRSA form and let me on my way.

So basically, 4cars, 7 cops 3 of which traffic cops and none new the law about wheels sticking out.

So an hour and a hlf of shit! But had a laugh, they were all sound!

Can anyone tell me what it is then??

I have nothing against the police in general but some are absolute dickheads. One of our friends is a copper in the met and

he says exactly the same thing.

Your wheels dont look like they stick out. Ok...if you've got really fat wheels and its not lowered then it might be a bit worse

but if your arch covers it, your looks like it has no gap either.

Tyres are on their way but I'm gonna get different from 195.45's

the law is your tread is not aloud to protrude from the wheel arch. therefore your rim can stick out as much as it wants as long as the tread itself does to stick out. But to a limit because you can only stretch your tyres so much before they screw you over for that aswell.

As far as they are aware, no part of the wheel can protrude the bodywork. Its safety and common sense.

So who is right and who is wrong?

I dont think it would be fair for anyone else to be able to run wheels sticking out and others not even tho they want the same look.

i went to the MOT station and even they haven't got anything about wheels sticking out...

its about safetey...

and if everything on your car that youve added is TUV approved... according to the manufacturers its safe!!

The law and MOT are two different things.

Somtimes they agree but just because a car can pass an mot doesn't mean it's legal.

The law mentions that the tread of the tyre must not protrude but some people on here really do take the last biscuit.

I'd be more worried about the car that the wheels are attatched to hitting me than a bit of wheel sticking out a bit...
