Hi there i plan to buy a spring and shock kit soon for my mk3 saloon and have found many companys who do kits for similar prices was wondering whats the best to go for. I have found the companys who do the kits are:

Supersport

Fk

Gmax

Vipertech

PhillJ suspension kits

If people who have had any of these springs and shocks could tell me their experiences with any of the kits would be really usefull also what drop would look best on a mk3 saloon I'm thinking 60/60 but do want a bit of a nose dive 70/60 80/60??

PhilJs kits are excellent for the money.

Mine on a 70/60 PhilJ kit:

60/40 is about as low as is sensible everyday.

mines on a phil j 85 70/60

PhilJ kits are good for what you pay for, but the ride comfort is shockingly bad. They do handle really good on smooth roads but on your average roads with split tarmac, pot holes ect they just jump around everywhere and you struggle to put power down.

I asked pretty much the exact same question as you yesterday. It looks like HnR kit from PhilJ is the best for handling and comfort.

But apprently the 40mm Bilstein gas shocks and springs are good for comfort and handling if you like abit of roll in the car. Which personally is sometimes better for transfering more weight to the tyres to give more grip.

Its annoying me so much at the moment if i had the standard suspension i would put that back on.

Its never bothered me for the 1 year its been on but lately its been particuarly twattish.

250lb springs all round :p

PhilJ springs are about 180lb front and 130lb rear I think. They honestly arent that bad as long as you remember that you are driving a lowered car. That means looking out for pot holes, recessed manhole covers etc.

Bargain for the money but they are to lower the car more then to make it handle.

Speed bumps need to be taken at 5mph and if you go over a big pot hole listen out for cracking chasis legs.

They are a good kit I'm not slagging them off or owt, but you get what you pay for.

If you are keeping the car for a while spend abit more and get the HnR kit.

PhilJ kits aren't stiff at all! They most definately won't go anywhere near snapping chassis legs or seperating inner wings. The HnR kits are even stiffer again!

As for chassis legs cracking, i have seen them crack on STANDARD suspension.

2nd to that the phil J kits are stupidly stiff really you do bounce around everywere .

Iff you want to see a nice stance on a mk3 sallon look at Dan mk3's red saloon .. that is mk3 saloon porn !

so what other options are there for lowering kits at reasonable money? I'm only looking for 40/40

Man-o-man I'm confused and very unsure what to do now concerning my Polo. Was and have been waiting for word back from PhilJ about suspension, but...

Out of the lowering kits available PhilJs definately aren't the stiffest and are probably nearer the softest.

Compared to standard suspension it is quite hard.... but what do you expect when you take 80mm out of the travel?

Yeah totally understand and am not too bothered about the ride quality though to a point of being used to using coilovers normally on my daily motor. Would prefer to stick with the coilovers as I prefer to tweak the height to best suit the wheelrecs etc. Am likely to be rolling 13's so a reasonable drop will be needed, lol. If the crap hits the fan and coils arent an option any of you recommend what height to go for with the spring n shock option??

carver if u dont like how hard the ride is fit some softer shocks as it is the shock obsorbers that stiffen the car up not the springs

Dampers can stiffen it up, but its the springs that play the major role.
