Right, basically i need to sort my shit out(audio shit), and I'm unsure what will fit/work in my car(1998 CL-1.4 polo 5 door)

I'm thinking component speakers, and a sub(what do you think- active or not), no 6x9s (i heard the sound is distorted by a sub), and thats it i guess.

I'm thinking a price of about £250, possibly lower sounds about right for the lot(not including the head unit), if you could try to base shit around that?

sorry, i forgot, itd be great if you could suggest things that are all of the same brand, e.g. infinity. I wanna keep it tight

there good head units those... but one big thing is that you are aware they dont play cd's we sell so many in work with people expecting them to play cd's but ther media recievers and will only work with a mp3 play or ipod...

at the moment i would recormend hte sony bt3600 looks good and its got 3 preouts and bluetooth lots of good stuff me things... sub wise i always think its best to go active unless you are building something i would recormend the vibe cbr12 evo but prob kills you are budget lol prob pick em up about £200 but then you could spend about £50 on comps... always best to amp you are comps so i would say look for an amp...

maybe a fli trap 12" never had problems with mine and quite a few mates have got them it is basicaly a lower powered cbr 12 evo bout £100 gives you a chance to amp and comps... not brilliant with comps so ill leav that to mbk or sumin

Comps wise i would recomend Spl dyanmics i happen to be selling some too amp them and the go with the recomended stuff above

other comps to look at are the infinity referance range 6020c's i think they are and the vibe black airs are all around the 50quid mark after that where you money goes and what you get vairy so much its very hard to recomend

Components wise, if you wanna buy decent stuff from the start, i'd recommend either Rainbow SLX265's or the Hertz 6.5" Components

You say about keeping it 'tight' with the same brands, after replacing my amp for my sub yesterday I havnt got two pieces of equipment the same make bar the distribution blocks! :p

In reply to the first dude, yeahh I'm not too bothered about lack of cd drive to be honest- its all about my pod. ill probs regret it. anyway, i may well go for the vibe sub, it looks good:D - but will it bring an overpowering amount of bass? hmm... I'm down with some bass but not to the point that i cant hear the other speakers

you can run the speakers from the headunit but they will perform a lot better from an amp

They wont sound half as good. Headunits are quoted as like 4x 52W this is utter crap, thats the MAX figures what you want to pay attention to is RMS power figures which is continuous power.

If your having components i'd definately amp them. Otherwise, you might aswell stick with normal co-axial speakers.

I've got an Audison SRX-2 amp powering some Rainbow SLX265 components (2x 65W RMS) and the sound is so bright and powerful.

An amp will power any speakers providing you've got 2 channels output or more on the amp.

I've done all the bits myself (although not in a Polo) so if you need any advice/help feel free to ask.

Depends what sort of music you listen to really, the sub choice and box makes a great deal of difference. If you want an all round sound for cheap, go for a 12" JBL sub & amp package from motorworld in the generic 12" carpeted box.

Personally mate, if your not that fussed and just want something thats gonna make a difference over standard for cheap, i'd suggest the following:

Its very cheap thesedays to get into ICE, but the above would be the equivalent of like an OEM option extra premium sound system if you like.

Be warned though, once you start with ICE it never stops! :p

But once you start looking at 'proper' equipment (as i'm sure you've found) you seen realise what JBL stands for... Just Bloody Loud :p

My first car... was the basic setup of the following:

Pioneer 4" Front Co-axials

Pioneer 6x9's in a stealth shelf

JBL Sub & Amp

And for ~ £200 that was pretty damn good

Spent slightly more in the Toyota though lol

the amp can go anywhere sub box mounted to the back of the rear seats under the passengers seats anywhere really

if you get a 4ch amp and bridge one side down then you can run comps and sub from one amp

Do you reckon the sound quality will be reduced becuase of using only one amp? It wont be a top class setup but i want it to sound pretty respectable. Sorry to sound like a 'tard but what do you mean when you say "bridge off"??

you take to channels and wire over them so you have +- +- and you would wire to the first pos and the last neg but the wiring plan that comes with your amp will explain and there should b no quality lost at all

The best idea for this would be to get a 3 channel amp such as the Audison SRX-3

I can vouch for the sound quality of these as I have an SRX-2

As for mounting the amps, make a false floor out of MDF to the shape of your boot, whack soom wooden 'legs' / supports on the bottom, jobs a good un - carpet it and then mount everything to that.

all depends on the sub etc you plan to run as it has to be stable at the correct inpedance and do reasnable power your gonna struggle to find anything over 500rms which will run comps and sub happily always better to have a nice 2 channel and a nice mono

infact I reckon ill run an active sub, nothing to heavy, (powerful but discreet) call it quality not quantity. and then a 2 channel amp to run my comps and tweeters!
