Had my first test last week, the theory test, got 95% - yey!

I learnt in an old Micra, and then a brand new shape one half way through the lessons when my instructor got a new car.

They were both pretty good. Apparantly good on fuel he said, and really easy to manuevor and wern't too powerful either, which I think was good for me at the time.

I drove a 106 zest2 once i was learning it was an alsome car to learn in you could see evrything no blind spots and you can get them pretty cheap now. then i did my pass plus in a new astra twas horible to drive.

How about a 1.4 TDi Lupo?

Good choice. The only thing that worries me about 1.4 lupo's is that the pedal boxes are wazzo! mine collapsed on my old Lupo, VW fixed it free of charge but only after i gave them loads of hassle!

i learned with BSM in a new 4 door 1.7d astra and i liked it alot, i suppose some people who were nervy about driving would be scared to drive it incase it was too big or something

I would definately be going for a new shape Fiat 500 once they've been around a while and you can find out about reliability problems.

Learnt in a new mini - very appealing as the remake of the Italian Job came out the week before I started driving

Diesels are good, cuz harder to stall, but then that only teaches people how to pass their test and not what they're likely to experience on roads,..where the majority of new drivers wont buy diesels, so they sit behind you in queues of traffic, stall and jault forward narrowly missing your shiney dub .. grrr (not that I'm bitter or anything)

1.6 ford focus them AA cars hard to miss lol but it was a beaut to learn in nice n comfortable an great to drive imo and its not the smallest or biggest of cars so all good for manouvers

Can't go wrong with Ford, it's the peoples car. Fiesta or Focus. A lot of driving schools up here switched from Ka sized cars to Focus/Astra/Civic sized.

I learnt in a 6n2 for my first 2 lessons then one of his learners wrote it off.

Then i learnt in a new fiesta 1.4td and i didnt like the feel of it at all.

I like the Polo so much i bought one :)

I learnt in a Corsa for the first few months till my instructor went off on his own (I followed!) - it was an okay car but a bit uninspiring...

He bought a bright yellow Mini Cooper then, that was a good car, although rear visibility wasn't the best as the rear window is tiny and the mirror is a funny shape. It was cool though

I've also had a Mk6 Polo as a courtesy car, that was good - could see loads, and it was a nice drive too.

A lupo thats had the necessary work done would be cool, you know you could get away with running coilies on it too :p

Failing that, air ride might be a plan.

I'd say a polo 6n2 or a lupo if you're feeling dub-inclined, both very nice cars to drive. Non-dub, a new fiesta, fiat 500, or a new mini would be pretty sweet.

Of course, you could get a new Polo GTi, drop it on BBS LM's and get some engine work done to take it to around 220bhp, then call it 'Dub Driving School' and charge like £30 per hour for the pleasure

I learned to drive in a KA, FIESTA, CORSA, FOCUS and of course VW POLO. my brother in law is a driving instructor and has driven a fiesta 1.4 tdci and currently a corsa 1.3 derv.

I like both and for learners they are very good as they are small, but if I was buying on I would get a 1.4 tdi polo

you can hire a car with everything on it for £80 per week which is good, if a pupil crashes it you don't get shafted.

I'm currently learning in one of BSM's 1.4 Vauxhall Corsa's, it's a nice little car. Visability is pretty good and the pillars aren't so wide you can't see anything outside. Manuvouring is done pretty well, with the features on the new car and going out in the older Polo are rather different. It's actually pretty quick too! For a Vauxhall I think it looks good, although I reckon a 1.4 Polo would be pretty sweet though instead. My instructer is a youngish guy (i'd say maybe 25), he's got a good sense of humour and doesn't shout or make you nervous which is great and you don't feel like he's ripping you out of the cash.

i learnt in a citreon c3 tbh the car was very average but i learned with him purely because he was absolutely ace, i wouldn't worry too much about the car, alot of it is to do with building a reputation. good luck

That's a good point. I went with my instructor because he got my aunt through her first test with him after being messed about with her previous instructor.

i learnt in a ford fiesta 1.6 tdci ztec s, that was remapped, leather int, black with tinted windows and two silver stripes. Was a realy good car, and appealed to alot of people. The instructor also took it on track days, due to the only thing showing it was a instructor car was the removeable roof sign.

Surly when you learn to drive you want to be in a normal looking car that is easy to drive ..

Nobody looks cool learning to drive ..

Barry Boy Driving Acadamy or what !

I learnt in a Pug 206 turbo diesel.

Was a good car and amazing in my opinion, would just pull you up hills without losing power like a sudden boost of power :p easy to drive around normal roads. Parrelel parking is a piece of cake with hte mirror adjusted correctly. and reversing into a bay parking space is a piece of cake as i was taught to look out the rear side window, which i found really accurate when you get hang of it. same for reversing round corner theres so many little things you can use to help with manouvers.

Car was quite comfy and the temperature was always kept normal it was never over the top (she never opened windows)

Though at one point her car suffered from blocked injectors which she didnt relise until it was stuck in a garage for 2 weeks (i stalled alot on one lesson as the revs kept dropping).

Theres a flaw in the design aswell, you have to lean forward/back at some junctions because you cant see past the windscreen pillars. and the windows mist up annoyingly

still passed first time though

But i'd probly get a newer pug like a 207 after i saw what my sisters 1.1 petrol 206 was like lol.

I'm learning now in a BSM 1.2 corsa. Its a very easy car to drive actualy, much easyer than the 1.4 16v engine in my mums ibiza. The only problem is the A pillars are HUGE and the body is difficult to judge when parking/ doing a left reverse.

I have driven my mates 1.3cdti corsa and its probly a better car, but i wouldnt say it would be better to learn in as some people have said, you never really get as much clutch control learning in a diesel.

I'm learning at the moment. my instructor taught my brother througha company 2 years ago but since started her own business. She's a good teacher and she teaches in a dielses ford fiesta. The newish one. Its a nice car to learn in i think. Although I've only driving 2 other cars i not got much to compare it to. Nice feel to it and its an easy drive :)

Mk2 clio dci ftw ! Great little city car, city steering for manouvers, diesel for economy, dont look to bad as the dci has liitle sporty extras iirc, gr8 visibility all round and for someone in your position, most importantly there SAFE, theyve got a NCAP 5 star rating which is gr8 when you consider you've got someone driving whos only ever driven a car once ?!?!?! Something to think about maybe, dont want no bean can that'll use you as a crumple zone if it all goes pete tong !

Not a fan of the french, or there cars for that matter but i think the clio is a brilliant all rounder for something like what your doing.

I learnt in a petrol 206, it was like death.

I would say a 1.2 Mk7 Polo or a 1.3 second generation Toyota Yaris. Just my opinion of course.
