every day my mum and dad try and hussle me to sell my car for a nice reliable rover or almera or something shit

and they just dont seem to understand I'm not going to sell my car and have something shit, and some money that i can spend on my uni debts which is f-all to do with them anyway. i can see where they're coming from but the point is I'm NOT going to sell it unless i upgrade to a better/more modern dub [depending on how much i work this summer] but they still wont stop busting me balls llol

they dont understand the love for my dub and the fact id rather be skint than drive something that looks so generic and gash

anybody get the same grief?

If you bought the car and you spend your own earned money on it then they shouldn't be hassling you.

i live at uni most of the time in manc but my car has been sat on the drive in preston for about a month or so and is pissin me mum off lol

thing is i do need to spend more money on it to make it 100% perfect, but if i sold it now i might aswell put all the money i spent on it in the past year in the bin :(

my mum's the same and my dad sometimes backs her up, but on the other hand he'll sometimes tell his mates about how cool my car is etc. So I think secretly he likes it, but just has to agree with my mum.

She'll be all "why don't you just sell it instead of wasting all your money on it?" what she doesnt understand is that it's my toy and I enjoy spending money on it. It keeps me out of trouble and out of cuffs so I don't know what her problem is. It's not like it's a chav wagon stuck outside the house.

You have a 2003 Polo...at what point would selling it for another car improve anything...you'd prob. still throw money at a new car.

i completely agree with you not wanting a generic looking car. my mk1 golf is slow as shit, it doesnt handle well, its not the most comfortable car in the world, but its a classic and i feel cool driving it which is all that matters to me!

Dad hasn't said anything derogatary about my car since he borrowed it and left it in sports mode when he brought it back.

Both my parents hate my car, although I think my dad kind of like the whole small car nippy engine concept.

The way they see it, I pay for insurance/tax/service, so it doesn't really bug them. The only thing that does is how much money I've spent on little things like alloys.

I used to have a similar problem, i was given my car by my uncle after i sold my old pride and joy car because i was going to uni and my dad decided i couldn't afford a car at uni, whilst a few months into uni i really hated not haveing a car and my uncle was getting a company car so i was given the polo on the condition if i sold it he got the money for it, i pay for everything on it insurance repairs etc.... My parents when i got the car said you are not to do any modifications like last time you don't have enough money (even though i had coilovers under my bed waiting ) I have now done loads and loads of modifications to it and they really like it and are not bothered what i do to it infact they both have pics of it on their mobile phones and often show their mates quite proudly they now seem to inderstand that its my hobby and at uni i could either blow all my money on clothes, beer and whatever loads of other students waste there money on or like me be sensible go out but get drunk beforehand to save money and spend the money on my car. try and expain to them that it is your hobby and hopefully they will understand, i may have just got off lightley thoug end of the day your money and your life they will just be finding it hard to let go of there last little bit of control over you!! hope it helps

My parents are cool with what i do to my car. They quite often ask what i've been buying for it and what each bit does. I get comments quite often too on how shiny i keep it as i prefer it clean than a muddy piece of shi£!

They're more bothered about my GT which is still stat on the side of my drive way whilst i very slowly remove bits off it to sell until i show them how much money i've made selling bits compared to just scrapping it!

i have a mk3 astra aswell as my coupe, and my old man like the idea of me getting a project car of the VW sort so much, that he paid for it without me asking him to. i was all ready to pay myself and be skint for a while..

My dad really likes mine, although he does give me a look of disapproval everytime i scrub.......that'd be the whole journey then really!

My mum and dad thought my Polo was unrealiable. I just gave in, as my dad offered to buy me a newer car, had second thoughts all the way through and I still do. Regret it tbh, biggest mistake I've made. I just settled for what a good family friend had just bought...1.4 16v Clio, its doing the mileage well. And will be with me as a daily for the next 2 years.

But they know about the plans for the project, totally agreeing if its my money, they cant stop me!! Things happen for a reason..onward and upward

Well.

When I was 12 my dad bought the Locost for us to build together.

Then when I was 15 I bought the Polo

At 16 I had the 205.

Sold and bought back the Polo.

Bought another 205 for spares.

So all in all that's 4 cars sat doing not a lot. Plus my dads motorbike, Impreza, 3 trailers and the daily Volvo.

Does my mum complain? I mean can she really? :p

My mum hates my car, she has this odd thing where she thinks a lowered car means it goes faster and is more dangerous and she is constantly begging me to raise it back up!

My dad understands the lowering but he has the stereotype that most of the nation have about old high milage cars...that they are nakered and going to breakdown anytime soon! He is constantly saying that my car cant have much life left in it as its on 116K and i should sell up and buy a Mk4 golf diesel! Ummm.......how about NO!!!
