1984 Polo Loon G40

Featured Replies

Brought a mk2 loon and a smashed up G40 coupe of weeks ago. The G has been in the garage having a rebuild/clean, I've been driving the loon since buying it.

After a visit to GSF and a new fuel tank in the boot I decided it was a good idea to make a start.

Sounds like anice little project you have there ..

All the Mk2 loons are coming out of the woodwork recently

Yes I'm loving the idea of a G in the loon and the understated look of the car. Traffic light grandprix will shock a few of the chavs lol.

Keep us posted, I'll be GT'ing my 'loon soon!

I'm jealous (i loose count of how much i say that in loon threads  )

I was going to G40 my mk2 loon but now thinking of GT-ing it, as charger re-builds every few thousand miles i just dont have the time for

I've been thinking about putting the 1043 from my loon into a G40.

Any advice?

Well its in and after much chat about brakes decided to follow the advice you guys have been giving me and buy decent pads hoses and fluid.

Next problem/challenge is intercooler and rad. Its all so tight up front i brough brand new oe intercooler and can't fit it gutted!!!!! New rad for G40 miles to big grrrrr.

Any advice would be welcomed

Looking good, my mate has a G40 mk2 loon. fun fun fun!

Rad/IC setup really needs some front valance surgery for best effect.

anyone got any more pictures of this

have you not seen what it looks like now???? red/cream/chrome EVERYTHING???

Cheers mate.

Yes I belive so, he didn't do the conversion though. Will be modified to allow sufficient airflow.

Looking good mate

Will hopefully be G40'ing my loon at the end of the year :D

You will be fine using the standard narrower MK2 radiator. Personally I'd fit a new one or at least reverse flush the existing one if its in good useable condition.

As for intercooler, well thats where things are much more difficult. You could possibly use a standard mk3 G40 one IF you can get it to fit in a reasonable position. Other than that you are looking at fitting a long and narrow I.C. from something like a 5 series diesel BMW (IIRC?). Try pm-ing LregG Gregg on here, he'll help you out for sure with a bit of advice.

Either way you really need to open up the front panel to allow good airflow into the I.C.
