Scrapping a car without the V5?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Breaking a red polo atm and need it gone asap, so its being scrapped, was hoping this weekend!

The V5 hasnt turned up yet (only bought less than 2 weeks ago) so wondered if theres anyway you can inform the DVLA its been scrapped without the scrappy filling in the yellow section on the V5?

Cheers

does the scrappy know about this?

most scrappies wont take it without the v5

just wait till you do get the form and then fill out when you scrapped it.

I've never had a scrap metal place wanting the V5?

I'd rather them do take it and fill the V5 out when its taken, but its just incase the V5 isnt back in time

If your scrapping it, I assume they still need a signature from the third party?

Just write to the DVLA. All you have to say is that you are scrapping the car and give a date so that you are no longer responsible for it. I've done this twice now. My letter is below:

Vehicle Customer Services (VCS),

DVLA,

Swansea,

SA99 1AR

Ref. VW Polo xxxx xxx

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is to confirm that this vehicle was scrapped on the xx-xx-xxxx. I wish to be removed from the record as being the keeper of this vehicle.

Yours faithfully,

if you just want then just give it to the pikeys, them smelly bastards will take any thing thats metal, i doubt they would let a little thing like a lack of log book get in the way of a bit of cash.

just make sure you have nothing else lying about tho or they will take that as well

We have a 'permanent travellers site' near us - they constantly hounding the local factories for scrap metal

Scrap metal is worth quite a bit atm i've been told, should see £50 or more even collected for the Olop

If its fairly complete with the engine, you will get more than that.

Most scrap metal merchants won't ask for the V5, but car breakers yards will. Like mentioned above, just write to the DVLA telling them when you scrapped it along with the registration and chassis number.

My local yard is giving £170/tonne for cars.
