Its when someone has rushed and not thought about doing it right and the end result looks shit.

rushed not at all it was done slowly so everything had time to cure properly so there was no swelling or shrinking to show up everything was built up in layers, and in what way does the end result look shit ? i do repairs on cars myself and i can only pick out some very minor defects which will be getting sorted in between competitions.

at the end of the day i was quoted £2500 just for the arches and bodywork to be done and a complete repaint, he beat that quote and did alot more work on it so i can't argue with that as not many bodyshops will take on custom work nowadays as it takes too long and won't pay like normal everyday crash repairs.

it's all good saying it's poor quality but you'v not actually said the reasons that make it a poor quality finish ?

the front wings where smoothed using fiberglass filler and hand shaped to flow smoothly round :)

I've seen the car many times in the flesh and i wouldnt say its a shit finish at all. i would say its quality.

and it must be good quality because the vibrations dont seem to damage any of the bodywork :)

Yeah all entitled to an opinion, I personally dont think that its rushed in anyway at all!

I need more info on these front wings smoothed, I doubt you will be able to tell me coz you didnt do the work.

Any way of pointing me in the direction of the bloke that done it?

Nick

end of the day everyone is entitled to an opinion, martin is taking the certain opinion on the cheek, but you haven't actually seen the car in real, and if you did you would see the finish on it is really good. i know nothing at all about finishes, painting or anything like that, and from my point of view its great!!

and also like he said he is sorting out the slight imperfections inbetween competitions, and when youve got 147db pumping out of a little polo i'd say the work carried out is great!!!

keep up the good work martin!!!!

it's only a couple of weeks till 155 will be in sight i reckon ;)

as for the wings i can give you his number if you want to pm me

i'd like to know in what way it was rushed ? do you know how long it took ? how many hours were spent on it ? i think you need all the facts before you can make comments like you have, i know i wouldn't comment on anything i don't have all the information about

cheers for the comments picked up a dash today to start work on :) interior should be coming together slowly now :)

i cant wait to hear 155db, that'll just be immense!!!!!!

like i said i know nothing about bodywork but from what i can see youve done a top job!!!

have good weekend everyone!!

some people should keep some opinions to them selves? YES....

imo it looks rude as fooook never seen it before and looks very shexy much better than them 206 vans that are actually factory made!!!!

would love to see it in flesh and ofcourse hear the damn thing only thing i dislike is postman pat :( not my thing lol but otherwise great car and work

the front of this looks great, they wings are amasing!

Ain't my sort of thing, but top marks for having the balls to do it, and for the time, effort, and cold hard cash that looks to have gone into it.

If folks don't like what they see, they need to be diplomatic about it, or find something else to read rather than try to cause an arguement.

If you get any more problems, use the report a post button and someone will look it.

Good way to make friends!

Everyone is entitiled to an opinion, but that was just a blatant put-down, and makes you look pathetic!

Door

looks like a LOT of hard work went it to make it what it is! Well worth it tho!

I know.....the black doesn't really do it justice, but she won't have it any other way, lol.

She should go for red if she does the colour change cos yours just looks stunning!!!! :D

  • Author

cheers :)

i keep thinking about a colour change but i like black and white myself and that will hide all the work so probably just leave it as it is :)

Bloody hell, i thought it was just me that was up at this time on a sat morning

I know what you mean, black and white would be beautiful, but it really wouldn't do the bodywork justice!

Oh, decisions decisions!

it's rubbish waking up early on weekend :(

on a good not i have pizza to microwave for breakfast from my walk back from the poub :) winner

i have never really liked mk4 onwards polo's...

but in response to tht invalid commenting on rushed bodywork :? from photos? :x

this car is definatly a unique stamp on the polo modifying we all do and love..

changed my mind on later polo's anyway.... an absolutly ace car mate.. hope to see it in the near future.. 8-)

Custom metal fabrication is the proper way of doing things your on the lines of the trade, glassing places isnt the proper or professional way of doing that sort of work on a car. You need good metal skills and welding to be able to approach a proper job done. The whole point of doing the work is to look like its come out from the factory like it or even better than factory finish, although overspray everywere dont cut it for me, a think more time on the prepping and painting side would do it proudly. I have seen this and the audio is loud, just need to tidy it up.

  • Author

yes metal work and welding would be the best way to do it if you didn't have the amound of bass that it does with glassing you can build the layers up like we did so it is over 10mm thick and won't flex like sheet metal would and crack the filler ;)

thats the reason it was glassed and not wleded the guy has awesome emtal work skills he can use an english wheel and all the tools to make fabricate panals ;)

on a downside someones nicked my dust caps :(
