From personal experience More Than are pretty good, I'm only 19 and iv got 2 years no claims... third party fire and theft on my 1ltr mk2 polo only costing me just over £300!, but as youv just passed.. would be alot more,

why not go for a mk3 or mk4 1ltr on both, just to save insurance money (only a thought), then the year after save up and buy something real sweet

i tried MoreThan and they quoted me 1700!... but 1200 on Thrid Party! not too bad... might have to pop out the doggy eyes to daddy  !!... thanks!..

insurance on a 1.4 8v or 16v is gonna be quite steep for a new driver. I flicked through the back of a car mag and rang one insurer after another, trying to get each one to try and beat the other! Managed to get a couple of hundred quid off in the end so give that a try.

Or just do what takot says and buy a 1.0l until you have a year or so of no claims and then you could either buy a new car or swap the engine over! I started with a 1.0l and now have a G40!

The topic "Polo Insurance" is very nice. I gained a lot of informations. thank u

The best thing to do is run the comparison engines (moneysupermarket and confused.com), then direct line (cause they're not on them), and this will give you a clue who it's worth ringing up and having a chat to. Don't be afraid to haggle.

Also worthy of note that if you're looking at paying in installments, the APR can be bloody high, so much that it can be cheaper to put it on an overdraft, or even a credit card, and repay it that way.

Also worth looking at the specialist insurers, such as HIC, and seeing what they come up with (even to the point where it's worth swallowing your pride and buying something like max power to get the specialist insurance companys details.

a 1.4 will be around the £1600 mark, 16v be just over £2000.... be surpirsed if u get any better then that

I've looked at comparison sites, for when I pass my test. The lowest quote I've got so far is £2700 for 3rd party F+T!!! Thats on a 1.4L, 5 Door, Mk4 CL.
