What a Shite Day

Featured Replies

Right so today i got a new stereo which didn't want to play through my speakers so i headed over to a mates who is a techie wizz and on my way over went along a freshly gravelled road by mine and heard a loud noise which i couldnt see where it came from but when i got to my mates i noticed a crack in my windscreen about 15-20cm's long which really put a damper on things & take make it worse both of us could not figure out what was stopping the stereo from playing through any of my speakers. So once i had got home i spoke to my insurance but they said they can't sort anything till Tuesday & now my mobile keeps freezing up and turning it's self off :x . So all in all it's been a pretty crap day

Oh yeah does anyone know if i'll be able to claim my excess money back from the Council as it's the road works which caused the screen to crack and i was going the speed limit which they set which i suppose was to prevent things like this happening

damn! thats bad mate, if you bought the sterio at a decent store ask them to fit it if they can, then if it doesent work its their fault

as for that screen, maybe time for a mk5 upgrade item then you can fit mk5 roof strips :p you have to look on the bright side of things

No i bought the stereo off a family friend really sound guy and he had only had it a few months but then got a new X5 with all the toys in it so didn't need the stereo anymore but i just thinks it's not compatible with my car. But i think the screen will just be replaced with a bog standard one by my insurance as it only cost £60 excess to get it fully replaced

well thats shit haha

lol so its a no win situation  erm.. say you need a mk5 one as they are better quality or sumin  or get one through autoglass or someone and ask them to fit a mk5 one instead if they are only fitting it I'm sure they will fit anything

Nah it should all sort it's self out, the guys sound enough and will probably just give me my money back and sell to someone else, will asking for the MK5 windscreen actually work i will they just fit the one that my insurance says to, it's only £60 excess so i'm not too pissed off now :-D

I wouldn't call myself a techie wizz but theres loads of wiring looms you can buy for head units - And with a 'slight' modification you can usually wire in all your speakers as well. I hate instruction manuals - they are usually hard work to under stand but the one with my Sony was really usefull.

at least you know how your happened i just randomly found a huge crack in mine wen i went to go to wrk.

Found out today that my insurance doesn't include Windscreen cover which i'm certain it did say i had along with Legal cover when i recieved my renewal letter but their having none of it so i'm having to foot the entire bill myself, but i'm hoping i can claim from the Council who laid the road.

Also does anyone know if i can source my own windscreen from a local scrappy then have someone fit it or does it have to be a brand new one just incase the Council say they wont pay out. Cheers

If the stereo is fine and your speakers/speaker wires are not shagged then there shouldnt be a reason why it isnt playing?

You have wired the right wires up?

A good way of testing if the speakers/speaker wire is in good order is to do the battery test. Get a normal AA battery (a new one) and hold one wire onto the + end of the battery, then tap the other wire against the - end of the battery. You`ll hear like a ruffling/popping sound from the speaker if everything is good

Gutted about the screen :-( i always stay about 50ft behind the car in front when driving on new surfaced roads

Yeah the speakers were all working fine before i took my old stereo out so i don't think anything could of happened to them between the swaps thanks for the advice though Walsh.

And i was way behind the car infront when it happened because they were driving like pricks just bad luck i guess
