was driving home from my mates house the other night and at the last minute, noticed a small man stood in the dark on a corner holding a radar speed thing to his eye, then i went past the juntion and saw the car at the side of the road. Now I'm shitting it thinking I'm going to get three points and a fine! I could of only just been doing over the speed limit, (30 zone) but i was in the new diesel so a lapse just nudged me over, when id looked down from lifting off, the clocks were at 35-ish so i couldnt really of been doing 40 as id only lifted off a second before that.

Question: to take the speed, does the radar thing have to follow you along side the car? He didnt move as i went past. And would he have to pull me over to tell me i was speeding? or does it just go through automatically - my Reg number and what speed i was traveling at.

he doesnt have to follow u along side the car and 9 times out of 10 they will come after you and tell you where speeding but they sometimes dont, i.e they cant be botherd or got to much on so you got to play the waiting game matey

As far as I'm aware, they have to pull you over on the spot, or stop you a little further down the road.

I went past one (obviously doing the exact limit +/- 20mph) the other week, and haven't heard anything back.

I've been past one before, he did the whole movie style jump into the middle of the road with his radar gun and followed the car... I was quite considerably over the national speed limit and I also never heard anything. Odd.

Phew this thread is making me feel slightly better. I didnt think the gun could even take details, but was thinking with the advancing technology, it would of all just been displayed on the screen. Ahh well. we'll see.

they dont have the memory to store details. they littulary just take your speed

I thought that they weren't allowed to hide and had to be in clear view or have the rules changed now?

If you do get something in the post dispute it, ask for proof the gun was properly calibrated. These radar guns have been proven to give bollocks readings.

i was readin in the MCN that there was a speed camera in the back of a horse box looking back at traffic so they can b anywhere lol. I think they have to be connected up to a lap top or some sort of storage device soon afterwards to store the details due to hardly any memory??

it doesnt have to follow you along. however, the cops wouldnt usually ticket you until you were doing maybe 35 or more. and your speedo is probably out enough that if it says 40, your only doing 35. basically id only worry if you were doing an indicated 38+ but you said 35 so i think your grand

thay have a transit builders van with one in the back round here even has copies of screwfix catalogues and the sun and coffee cups lying in the window and cement and dirt all over it i got done by it when they had just got it.
