Don't want to look like a pratt asking this but what oil are people running on for 1.4 8v? looking for something decent not worried about the price i don't have the haynes manual so i need some reccomendations please i'm looking to do an oil change soon as.

The haynes manual suggests 15 w 40

I used a 10 w 40 Semi synthetic Castrol magnatec last time, which I'm sure is perfectly adequate allbeit probably quite expensive for what it is just because its "CASTROL MAGNATEC WOOOOOOOO".....

some others use fully synthetic which is no doubt superior, but is often quite a bit more expensive.

Dont think I've seen many 10w 40 fully synthetic oils but dont quote me on that

Actually ended up getting the one you just mentioned castrol magnetic last night down at halfrauds think it was around £21. cheers

Any 10w-40 semi synthetic would have worked fine

If ever in doubt, just go for the most obscenely priced one =P Shout all you want, but my theory hasnt let me down * points at the Ferrari FXX engine inside his tittery lil Mk4 *

Jokes aside, get yourself a fully synth 10w40 :) Halfords do a good range of oils, so take y'er pick from Castrol or Mobil.. Dont be fooled by all that magnatec hillbilly crap, just read the numbers ;p

Got to VW and get the correct Synta oil for your car, it's not too dear and you know it'll be fine to run.
