about 3 hours labour I'd say. Do you not have any kind of warranty on the refurbed gearbox? I'd be taking it back if I'd paid for a rebuild and it's still fucked.

yeah well my plan is to take it back, but if they're gonna be nice people about it i need my car fully functionin coz i think I'm meant to be driving it to france this summer!!

how much was the rebuild if you dont mind me asking?

gearboxes are relativly easy to swap with you and a someone else

There fiddly more than anything!

Gearbox is a piddle, its just fiddly like hearty-gram says. I'd diy it unless you don't have a lcue about mechanics, thats assuming they won't sort you out...

Or ask for a full refund in view of the fact that they swapped your box for you, and its no better than before, meaning you are in exactly the same position as you were before they intervened, just a fair bit poorer. Find a low-miler GT in a scrappers or being broken and get the box off that, start the swap on a saturday and worst case if it goes wrong you've got sunday to sort your problems.

It probably took us a full days labour to do barneys, but thats in the tighter mk2 bay, and we disconnected the absolute bare minumum required to get it off, which made it more of a fiddle.

Not a bad box to change really, i used to be a gearbox mechanic/fitter 90% of manual boxes are £150 incuding clutch change as they only take 5 mins when its apart.

i still do it privately but on my drive so it's a fair bit harder, especially lifting the box and alligning it on your own through the bonnet so i still charge £150 or 120 to good mates.

take the box back any recon box should come with a minimum 12000 mile/ 1 year warranty. a polo box should be £350 to £400 for bearings, seals, gaskets and blasted/painted casings done obviously gear/diff or shaft damage would be extra!

all to often these places spray a second hand item and sell it as recon. ALWAYS MARK YOUR BOX so you know you are getting yours back and not some dodgey second!

i paid £425 for the rebuild, and tbh dont want them monkeys touching my car again. they snapped an adjustment handle off my seat grrrr

i dont know how to swap a box as I'm not technically minded, gonna give them a ring though as its only done about 3000miles MAX since it was done, I've hardly driven it

cheers for the help, if anybody sees a low milage GT box for sale PM me and il post you a can of stella lol

Bring it down to me, for a few squids we can sort you out.

Managed to do a G40 box in a record time of 50 mins on a ramp; overhead!!!!

Did involve lots of bad language, a sore finger & a bit of wiggling!!

did mine today, about an afternoons work between two, the only bit i always have difficulty is the near side driveshaft :@:@:@
