I am getting my mk4 ready for the mot, i think it will pass but I'm not sure and i got told if it fails the first time, they'll give you a free test next time. is this true?

Also, needed some advice, can i have 14 inch wheels on the back and 13 on the front for the mot?

it's totally up to the garage whether they give you a free re-test or not. It used to be enforced but it's not anymore so it depends what their policy is. Just ring round a few and ask them.

Yes you are allowed different sized wheels on the front to the back, they just have to be the same on the same axle. I.E. both fronts have to be the same as each other and both backs have to be the same as each other.

last time my car failed, they offered me a free retest but there was a time limit. cant quite remember what it was tho (was 3 cars ago!)

Just looked on a refusal certificate from last year:

'If the vehicle is left at the testing station for repair & is retested before the end of 10 working days, then only a partial retest is needed for which no fee may be charged.

If this vehicle is removed from the testing station for repair & returned for retest within 10 working days, then only a partial retest is needed & a partial retest fee may be charged'

Only 1 partial retest is allowed.
