hi

i have VW Polo 1.4 Tdi 2001 and the central locking has died the pump at the bck still makes a noise but the front doors don't lock.

the front have recently stopped working before this the pump used to lock all 4 doors but the motor used to continue to run and switch off 3 to 4 minutes l8r.

can anyone help me with this problem and also if it is the pump (6N0 962 257 A) does anyone know where i can get it cheap and VW have quoted me £180+ VAT

You can try eBay. Just make sure you can get one that has the same pin allocation as your existing pump. Even one with more pins on it don't seem to work.

i was woundring that if the pump is running could it be something else or is it a problem with the pump

I had this problem with my 6N2. My pump was running but not locking anything, tryed a new pump and i still had the fault.

It turned out to be the lock that locks the fuel cap cover. The rubber had split and air was leaking, I just disconnected it and blocked the tube.

hi leedo thanks for the advice, the rubber was also split on mine i'll proberly go to the breakers to get a replacement. the front still does'nt lock does anyone have any idea, also i read the haynes manual and there is supposed to be a electrical connector at the bottom of the of the front locking unit but for sum reason there is not one there has anyone also noticed this, i looked for the connect just incase it had fallen of but could not find it, can anyone advise me of any further action. thanks.

sounds like you have an air leak from your front doors. Maybe a split pipe that rund the air to your front doors is damaged and split. I guess this may be the problem...

easiest way to check is to lock one of the front doors with the key and see if the central locking pump responds and locks the rest of the car. if not then pretty sure its a split pipe!

Hi,

Did you try blocking the pipe that leads to the split rubber before trying your front doors again? If that's where the leak is the air may not flow to your front doors.

hi, thanks for the advise i have fixed the problem as leedo said it was the fuel cap lock, the rubber had gone, and i stupidly for got to connect teh front lock to the pipe reconnected it and now its all fixed thanks again guys. :-D

I know it's an old one but I have a similar problem as this one,

only in my case I can unlock the doors but I'm unable to lock them.

also only when I'm unlocking the doors the pump makes noise, when I try to lock there is no sound from the pump.

any suggestions?
