I've got new filter setup and stuff, just aint told them but best thing to do is to keep the old parts then change them if neccesary

or just dont have an accident

cheers pal i wnt tell em i dnt think :)

Nothing to declare man

Your a fool if you dont declare...

Some people dont have a choice, its up to him what he wants to do as it is his insurance on the line?

You do have a choice... find insurance that lets u mod...

But up to you I guess!

uve got to remember ill only have like 1k to spend on it and mod insurers normally are expensive or do u no of any that are cheap like under 1k for a 1l polo for a 17 yr old with 5month no claims?

If you cant insure it properly then dont mod it

And no claims is in 1 year intervals so if you stop your current policy you lose out on those 5 months.

ye but I'm on mums and she doesnt want me to do it up unlike me who has plans lolz so i have to lose the no claims i think

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm also with directline on a 6n2, with quite a lot of mods on my mums insurance, ang up to declare my mods and they said they're all fine because they dont affect the performance :)

Although my coilovers will put the price up when i declare them :)

Didn't think direct line allowed mods under 25.

ye they dnt they always threaten me stupid fekers altho i done pass plus now and that didnt even drop the price :(

A lot of insurers wont recognise your 'no claims' because your on your mums policy. Plus it needs to be a year as said above.

If you want to mod i would say you should get your own insurance, places like admiral, elephant and bell have always been the cheapest places for me but shop around, its annoying typing in all the same details over and over again but its worth it to find a cheap price. Admiral and elephant didnt put the price up when i added alloys, they just wouldnt replace them if i had an accident.

If you cant insure it properly then dont mod it

Easy to say that

but harsh being stuffed for insurance purely because of your age...Its JUST as ridiculous to generalise that he will cause or be in an accident because of his age as if they did it based on his GCSE results for gods sake

its all statistics... and they make a bloody fortune out of anyone under 25 who doesnt have tits (no offence - but its true)

In my opinion... id declare everything..as i did... as it isnt worth the risk

but i dont blame those who dont

Your getting Off Lightly Mate, my Car Is A 1.4 cl 6n, I'm 17 And My Insure thrird Party is 2,200 :x

Think Yourself Lucky mate.

I'm with endsleigh on my 1.4 SE and they know about my tints and alloys, wont let me do the exhaust tho...etc. my policy is £950 and I'm 19. and they said they didnt even want to know about my accident becuase it was on a bike, and I've got 1 years NCB

Edited by ozzy89

Endsleigh are usually alright. They have a policy on lowering and about 40mm is the maximum- Generally with coilovers and the like its impossible to tell officially how low it is l though lol.

If you want mods, are under 21 /19 you will have dificulties without paying through the nose, b and as mentioned on your mums insurance unless its DL themselves you go with after most other insurers wont honour the NCB,

Insurance is a bitch, but its illegal not to, and I'm sure if you (god forbid) had an accident, even one involving a padestrian for example, I'm sure you'll not want it voided then.

Otherwise, its Adrian Flux, Quinn Direct, Endsleigh or others such as those on Go compare and that will probably give a lower price that direct line but might not honour mods.

Try Adrian Flux of Greenlight, their quite good for mods

Me and Burner are both insured through Brent Acre, I dont have any mods, but whenever he changes somthing to his car he just has to let them know and as long as it hasn't cost him anything (or says it hasn't cost him anything) it doesn't affect the premium. They are by far the cheapest company I have come across and I think they actually specialise in VW's
