Dubstyle's latest project car - 5dr 16v!

Featured Replies

Well after playing with the idea for ages about getting a newer car _ I took the plung with a black P reg mk4 16v - I stopped at the guys door and asked if it was for sale!

When I collected it this morning it was totally std - as it left the factory - came with a/c, sunroof & foglights - couldnt say no for £1200 - but the icing on the cake is the engine! Brand new vag pistons and bottom end rebuild, brand new head and all the valve etc have been replaced (timing belt snapped) its also got new water pump, radiator, a/c compressor & alternator - only had 76 miles on when I collected it!

After an evening with a bucket and spondge - plenty of cleaning products and a swift change of wheels later - this is what i'm at:-

Yes I know its riding a little high but its on 195/50's on std springs and shocks - first thing on the shopping list is upgraded headlights, then coilovers!

let me know what you think!

Did think about trying the Tresers on it................

Yep its 100% straight! 2 scabs of rust on the drivers door - 1 scab on the d/s rear door, 1 on the d/s sill and 1 on the d/s arch - dent in the bonnet, dent under the rub strip on the drivers door, dent at the top leading edge of the wing. but thats it! Everything works and it runs very well - took it out for a 60 mile run today - which feels weird as its just about doubled the mileage on the new engine!

I've got 3 choices of wheels in mind - 2 are 7x15's the other is an 8x15 et25 - I'm liking all of them - 1 set of them i've seen on another car which is a bit of a shame - but i'm pretty sure they arent on the car any longer - the other 2 haven't been seen on a 6n before!

I'll see you on Saturday Matt!

I'm going for a black / Red theme! So a few ideas going through my mind!

This is a few of my idea's:-

GTi interior with red seatbelts

New style "Polo" badge

coilovers

new wheels

a few tart up polished bits under the bonnet!

Fitted my Black "VW" grill roundel today - off Amber - well it would have been rude not to!

Took a few pics tonight too:-

Old and new together

cool

You are in the same place as me with my newly acquired valver, engine was rebuilt due to a cambelt failure, I'm looking for wheels atm but there's not too many decent sets around atm, and I cant afford new ones (student! :(

What wheels you got in mind? Should be good to see this coming along

Just been messing about - started to polish the rocker cover and also done my normal with the sidelights in the indicators. Put a nice subtle set of orange LEDS in the headlights and in the indicators!

Still need to do something about moving one of the cars on and freeing up some capital so I can get started on this one! I have over £1000 worth of mk2 golf bits just sitting in my shed collecting dust! :( Or need someone to buy my G40 so I can get my GTD fixed too! 2 Modified 5drs - ideal family transport!

Fitted my new side repeater blanks! ;)

Also took and arty-farty pic on the driveway of 3 of the VW's together!

Done nearly 700 miles on the run in - so decided to fit the thermostat and see if my MPG improves!

over £1000 worth of mk2 golf bits

I'll talk to you tomorrow about them!

After dropping it I think the valver would suit a german l/h cluster

Could you be tempted to get shot of the G60 steels or are they going with the GTD if it goes?

How do you like the valver noise? They sound a hell of a lot faster than they are

I'm putting Mk5 lamps on the back!

G60 steels will be staying as the winter rims I think!

My 16v doesn't have a "noise" as such as i'm stuck to a 4000 rpm limit for another 300 miles!

Oh that's a shame, 4000 rpm is when the note changes

It's actually still being run in... jesus... should have 120k plus left in that engine then! Box all good?

When i picked the car up the new engine had 40 miles on it! I'm now at 680 miles in just less than 2 weeks. I'm taking it easy with the car as its all new to me! Taking a while to get use to the power steering!

Bodywork isnt perfect - but it will be!

Cant wait to get on with the interior - but that will have to wait until next year!

Things went a bit pear shaped today!

Close on 940 miles on the clock - thought it was about time to put a thermostat in the car. (its been on its 1000 mile run in without one to keep things cool all the time). So got on the phone to my local stealers - they had a thermostat in stock for £8 - went through and got it. Started this afternoon by removing the thermostat end cover - to find part of the old thermostats push rod through the inner of the end cover - not good start. Pulled the old part out to find that when the new thermostat got hot it would just push itself through that hole and not provided resistance to open the thermostat. So went through to local scrap yard to get another end cap off a polo in the scrap yard. checked it over - it was fine - no holes! Got back home fitted the new thermostat into the end cap - fitted it to the housing - and the top screw stripped!!!! BASTARD! So just spent the rest of the afternoon stripping my car to get the housing off - maybe try the scrapyard again first thing. Or maybe try a few other places. But it needs sorted before thursday morning as my car is dumped on my parents driveway - right in front of my Scirocco which is booked in for an MOT on thursday morning! Luckily i'm holiday this week!

WOOOOW BAD SHIT!

btw mate how did you put your sidelights in the indicators, if they were brighter/night shots i think it woudl be very much american style :D

Not sure about it yet! Just drill the back of the indicators - use the wiring from a mk3 polo in the scrapyard - take the side repeaters (bulb holders and as much wiring as you can) they are 501 bulb - bought the bulbs off ebay in a pack of 10 for £3 (orange LEDs) push the bulb holders into the back of the indicator and scotlock the new lamps onto the sidelight wiring! Job done!

COOOOL, i ma get soem white/ blue ones and nock something up :D

Well - managed to get things sorted today! Got through to the scrapyard early doors and pulled the rest of the thermostat housing off the Polo I butchered yesterday. £5 for the rest of the housing - got home and finally got the new housing and thermostat fitted - now I have heat and the temp gauge sits bang on 90 degrees! Dont want to do that again!
