If you have a Polo GTI its literally a case of take the old discs, pads and carriers off and put the new ones on with the G60 carriers. No modification needed. If its not a Polo GTI you will need GTI calipers. I'm not sure how hard it would be a on a 6N. Should be straight forward on a 6N2.

Once I got all the bits took me about an hour or so.

Grr what a bargain

  • 2 weeks later...

Ye they would have been a bargain if they were in fact G60 carriers!

Was just to good to be true!

what were they then :?

they are g60 brakes for sure, not sure where the confusion has come from, they were originally taken off a N reg passat, which have exactly same brakes as a G60, same part numbers aswell 357 615 125c

so I'm unsure where the problem lies?

They cant be G60 carriers as they hit the disc before they reach the holes on the hub?

Also i'm pretty sure the part no is 357 615 123 which is different!

but g60 brakes are the same as the passat ones, so i cant see how they are wrong?

The Discs are probably 280mm and they may have the same pads but they must have different hubs.

mk2 golf g60

Earlier models (pre 1991)

left caliper 443 615 123 FX

right caliper 443 615 124 FX

carrrier (2 of) b 857 615 125

******************************

mk2 golf g60 later models (1991 on)

also passat with ABN engine (only passat with 280mm discs), 4 stud hubs

left caliper 357 615 123 B (or BX)

right caliper 357 615 124 B (or BX)

carrier (2 of) b 357 615 125 C

******************************

all other passats,

EARLY 256mm x 13mm discs, 4 stud, diff calipers completely (not vented discs)

LATER 256mm x 20mm discs, 4 stud, diff calipers completely (vented discs)

288mm discs, 5 stud, different make calipers and carriers (ATE not LUCAS/GIRLING) these are VR6 (engine AAA) and 2.0l 16v (engine ABF) - mk3 golf engines.

******************************

so, if the car the discs came from were 280mm x 20mm, then they can only be the same as a later mk2 golf g60 calipers

also, its worth noting that both the early and later golf g60's share the same hubs as the LOWER model passats (less than 280mm & 288mm discs) (left 357 407 255C and right 357 407 256 C)

whereas the higher model passats (ie only the ones with 280mm and 288mm discs) use different part number hubs, which

in english - the passat hubs should fit any type of passat caliper mentioned here (calipers for non&vented 256mm, vent 280mm, vent 288mm)

ugh...

hope this helps

Also i'm pretty sure the part no is 357 615 123 which is different!

also, this is a VWII stamped caliper (not the carrier) from a 1988 passat with non vented 256mm x 13mm discs, which is completey the size, type and year! and wouldnt fit anything

unless you've missed a letter off the end of the part number

Cheers for the help

I got that code from another website so it be wrong.

All I know is that these carriers do not fit on my 280mm disks yet fit my 256 disks, so they are definetly the wrong ones!

and what car are you trying to fit them to?
