I never have anything to do with these things,i just vote. But our voting system is flawed,and though England voted labour out in the last general election,they stayed in power. Money has to come from somewhere,but billions are spent on corruption and waste. In 1993 i was paying 47p a litre. 10 years later? 77p a litre. Fine. 5 more years - 1.14p! Thats not acceptable. I'll head north to Brum,too.

think of it this way, if you go out to buy some kind of consumable ite, for example a tv or something, you go to the first place get a price then maybe go another 2 places to get the cheapest price. if the price still isnt what you want to pay you'll simply do with what you have now and not bother till the prices drop a litte.... this is something you want rather than need.

petrol, you'll keep an eye out on prices and go to the cheapest option be it shell, bp, ads, tescos.... but wherever you go youl WILL buy petrol, because if you dont then you'll run out, not be able to get to work, not get the shopping, not pick the kids up from school....this is a necessity that without people simply wouldnt be able to live their lives as they do now

this is why protests wont work because no matter what we still NEED petrol and diesel so we'll still pay for it, even if the cheapest price is £1.25 or whatever!

the trouble is, the cost of fuel will go up as said... the trouble is wages dont reflect this... wages dont go up as cos of living increases, well, not for me anyway... thats where it all gets fucked up...

if wages reflected the increase in cost of living (interest rates, fuel increases by %), I'm sure there wouldn't be half as much of an issue... but no-one will do that now, will they?

Good luck to them I say. Hopefully more and more protests might be enough to get the government to cancel the proposed 2p tax hike in a couple of months time.

Why be lame people?? I understand that not all of you will be able to make it to one of the protests but you could still sign the petition!!? If we all do it (and pass it around chain email styley) then it could make the difference!

Id agree Hayesey,but we're not a group of 4x4 Gas-guzzlers - We drive little city cars,and have alot of realists on our side. I'm environmentally conscious myself,re-use and recycle everything i can if i cant reuse it or avoid it,and genuinely believe that I'm better supporting us than the soot-churning detour route buses,that run empty half the time,journey-4-journey.

We should take a leaf out of what some countries in europe are currently doing over fuel prices and start a massive riot.

Fuel prices are a joke at the moment.

I've spent 85quid on fuel this week.

I used to fill a full tank in my car for around £38. Now it's around £45. That's around an extra £364 a year if I fill up every week

fuel prices are a joke, but if its emissions they want to cut back then i agree get rid of the stupid busses that are half empty doing a million mile run everyday, speed bumps cause more pollution too.....

The difficultly with that is who will pay the extra wages?

All that will happen is traders will end up paying more in staff wages, a taxable allowance, they inturn will see reduced profits which will affect their ability to employ and give reason to create redundancies unless they increase their selling price, which inturn will cause their customer to pay more for their products before tax. Increasing the selling price to fund the increased costs may not increase profits, because everyone would have done it so all purchase Costs will have increased.

Reduced profits from the traders may drastically affect the tax payable, in the worst case scenario, reducing it into lower tax bands therfore the government will require more tax from other sources.

Increasing tax from other sources will cost us more which will warrant a further pay increase which will fall onto the traders shoulders, they will see further reduced profits unless they increase their selling prices further which will again cost the final consumer.

It's a viscous cycle and fuel is unfortunately one of the strongest factors in selling becuase almost every material item requires some form of transportation costs in its life.

i agree with haysey about those e-petitions, i did sign it through petrolprices.com but as was pointed out, i think it fails to be accounted for in the grand scale of things!

i read a very informative thread on e38 it started out at how somewhere they had seen fuel for 1.50 about 2 weeks ago, it went on into a huge thread discussing opec, war and genrally how the petrol isnt going to reduce in cost. opec openly said they were not going to up production to reduce the cost! petrol is all about not meeting demand but controlling it and it is controlled by some rather large super powers of the world, and they know to an extent it is a necessity and people will pay for it.

i am not saying it is right but it isn't gonna drastically change matters
