as the title suggests I'm i need of help i love good qualitymusicand aint one forthe 'got such a huge sub itsgona shake the shit outa my car' approach, lookinforsome larger speakers (6x9 prob) that are 1000+ rms....any suggestions and suggestions for an amp too? wantokeep my boot spaceasmuchas possible sothe best place to put them in parcel shelf or willthe 'box' be too bigfor them n sound total shite?

If you just want sound quality, i'd suggest the following:

Front - 6.5" Rainbow SLX265 Deluxe components

Rear - Rainbow SL 6x9's

Buy/make a stealth shelf for the 6x9's and you should be rockin'

For just over £200 you've got a decent set of front & rear speakers.

I'd at least amp the front ones though, so i'd budget another £150 on top for a decent amp. I currently have the Rainbow components mentioned above being powered by an Audison SRX-2 amp and it works great!

Just about every stereo system can benefit from a sub...although I'm with you when you say you don't want one that shakes the windows. I always thought our A6 sounded great. I found the sub the other day hidden away behind the drivers rear wheel. It gives the music a good kick, but being an O.E system it's obviously sensible.

forget 6x9's for sound quality and you will need a sub to get any frequencies below 50hz

the best sq setups are a single set of comps up front amped a sub in the rear amped and a nice eq to get it all playing right

mbh69 any recommendations? when i got the car it already has 13cm pioneer speakers cut into parcel shelf....worth keeping or finding a new parcel shelf?

is you go for a small sensible amount of power you wont get shaking 200-300wrms will be enough and if you dont want to lose your boot get a fibre glass box made that fits into the side of the boot, I'm sure theres a faq some where for that

You will probs want to sound proof the doors so they dont rattle and then amp the comps unless you have passengers regularly then dont bother with rear speakers it will mess the staging up unless installed and set up by a pro.

an 8in sub will be fine but you could go as far as a 12 and still be fine its all to do with the frequencies not the size of the sub anthough the size plays a roll on output.

i dout you will be able to find and or afford a set of componets that will handel 1000wrms 100wrms will be enough to make it audible outside the car if installed correctly, eg baffles, sound proofing and amped.

all depends what you want bin the parcel shelf and speakers just use a standard parcel shelf

you can fit a 10" sub in a molded enclosure no probs in a polo you could run a 4 channel amp to power the sub and front components but seperate ones would be better

as for what to go for it's personal preference you need to hear them in a car install really but knowing what sound you want out of it people on talkaudio should be able to recomend sq subs

rite mbh69 fopund some 8'' vibe space subs which i like the look of, heard much from them? good or not a wise choice? was think making some corner boxes for eges of boot (edgeclosest to bumber to direct sound towards the passangers) with amp between, sound good? when it comes to amps i have no idea wha i need for what sun whether be mono 2 channel 4 channel etc dont have a clue so say i want an amp to power 2 of these 8'' vibes they Speaker Size 8" (215mm)

You can mount the amps to the back seat

you say you dont want rattling but you are talking about having two of these at 300wrms thats going to rattle quite abit.

The front speakers just need to be swaped nothing else no adapters or anything.

as for an amp if you use two subs then you'll need a 2channel amp or a mono amp capable of about 600wrms @ 4ohm if one sub then you are looking at a 4channel and bridge 2 channels down so they both power the sub and the other 2 for the front.

I've always wondered, where would I mount tweeters in the front of my MK5? Obviously the 6.5" speakers would replace the normal door speakers, but where would the tweeters go?

I have a pair of Focal V2s up front and a 12" focal sub the quality is sweet, forgot to say I also soundproofed all my doors and I run it all off a genesis amp which is the similar to the new series 3 amps.

I have a 400w sub that does the bass nicely but it will soon be changed to a 1000w.

I find for the best sound that you will need a selection of door speakers, sub/s and 6x9's.

If you get decent enough door speakers they will have individual tweeters that help alot.

Also a decent HU is handy. Just remember to get the best sound you will need to play about with the amp/s and head unit for a while changing the gain ect intill you find what you want.

Dont buy off my words though. people like different things! Look about online and try to listen to different speakers to find the ones you want.

did you read the info at the top about giving out duff advice ?

do you know anything about sq ?

amps should be scoped and left as they are never use bass boost and better off with a seperate crossover like an audiocontrol 24xs or simaler to get the exact cut off frequencies.

sq is serious sound quality installs where everything sounds crystal clear and even this is where people can spend thousands just on a set of tweeters alone

the 'decent door speakers with individual tweeters' that you talk of can also be referred to as a component set :)...

a component set, a small sub, and 2 quality amps and a decent head unit is all you need, no need to faf around with 6x9's and the gain settings on the amps THE GAIN SETTING ISNT A VOLUME CONTROL, you'll fry your amp, if thats your thing

thanx for all the help guys, been chatting to an old friend who had a polo had it set up with two components in each door and 2 12''subds in the boot, he opted for cerwin vega, his install is on axis distripution. i know the subs he had was way too much for wha i want and can afford but was wondering if it worth having 2 sets of comps up front, obviously a large door mod is required but if it will give me the sq i want am willing to give it a go. any 8'' subs people can recommend? wanto keep it small and make my own corner box to hide it away at edge of boot :) let me know guys and thanx again

2 sets of components won't make sound quality any better it'll just play louder i have 4 in each door to try and keep up with the bass

RE used to do an 8" sub i'd look for a used one of those and if you join talkaudio chris from axis disrobution is on there
