Hi I'm in the process of polishing my rims problem is I'm wondering if this is how it should look after using 2000g wet and dry paper?

Also whats the next step i should take?

Yes its autosol I've got peek metal polish as reccomended by a few members but cant use it as i dont have a lint free cloth.

I've not long used some brasso metal polish but i can still see some score marks from when I've rubbed it down.

Any other advice

Rub them back with 600 grit and then 800 grit. Then buy a sissal polishing mop and use the brown cutting compound to take out the marks and polish them up..

looks like you have stepped up the stages too early...

How long would you reccomend using each grit of paper for?

just try peek. dont worry if the cloth aint lint free. its never caused me a problem

wet & dry, but do it dry then wet!

Did you go straight to 2000? Looks like you still have marks from using harsher grits you need to remove.

Work up through each grit until you eliminate the marks from the last step. Choose your starting grit depending on the level of corrosion or casting marks you need to remove.

I've got loadsa bits left to do but think I'm going to invest in some mops and compunds, to use on the bench grinder especially. Heard alot of good things about them, in particular reading this and the other articles on the site.

You have to keep sanding with every grade until it stops doing anything. Then move on to the next grade.

Once you get to about 600-800 grit you should start seeing a reflection and hardly any marks in the metal.

I'm lost on as to which grades of paper i should use and in what step e.g what grit first and the next and so on

My other half spent around 45 mins using 2000g and after a quick polish with brasso metal polish this is what the out come was.

Problem is you can in person lol

I would say start at around 400 cause there seems to be pitting/marks in the metal which you need to remove before you can polish them.

You want to go 400 > 600 > 800 > 1200 > polishing mops > wheel sealer.

Then you should end up with a finish more like this

listen to this guy he speaks the truth

polishing wheels is boring and time consuming but when you are done its all worth while

i spent 2 weeks in the garage bringing my kerbed and lacquered peeled bbs wheels up to this standard

once you have sanded use the polishing mops they make a hell of a difference you can use clay aswell to pick up any dirt left on the wheel. I bought the 8pc wheel polishing kit here..
