Hi, i'm doing some research and would like some input from you guys.

I would like you all to answer the following 2 questions:

1) Have you ever bought Part Worn Tyres?

2) Would you consider buying Part Worn Tyres if they were half the price of new ones & had half the thread remaining?

Answers need only be yes/no.

I just wouldnt trust them, Even if they are brand new/ loads of tread/ from a reputable seller, the Tyre is the ONLY contact with the road, and i would only ever buy NEW tyres (just my 10p worth but there you go bud)

Never had any problems with part worns so yes i recommend if money is tight

Tyres are one of those things i buy new and can then forget about them for a while - like road tax, by the 12mth and thats it.

Tyres aren't all about the tread, got to think of the sidewall too, a tyre my have a good 6mm tread on it but if the sidewall has been grinded against a curb then its not gonna last very long.

i get part worns for the mk3 for £6 fitted and most of them are in pretty good condition with a lot of tread left. treat myself to some brand new ones on the front now and again but part worn usually do the job nicely.

No - that's way overpriced, I normally pay 1/3rd of the new price for tyres with 75% left.

A tyre with half the tread for half the price? i would expect to get a tyre with half the tred for less than half the price to be honest.

I buy part worns from a place near where i live that i trust and have a good reputation. I never buy no namers. I got a pair of yoko's that looked as good as new (still had the little nobbly bits on them) for £20 each.

There are some places that will sell you crap tyres with little tred and thats not worth it- shop around and ask around to find a good place if you are gonna go with part worns. Ask them when they get a delivery in, place i go gets a container of tyres from the continent on a thursday. Turn up thursday afternoon and you get a top quality tyre, turn up on tuesday or wednesday after a busy weekend and its only the no namers left.

You lot saying you'd never consider it, do you change the tyres after you buy a second hand car?

I didn't think so.

Part worns are fine, as long as you check them for damage and know what you're looking for you're fine. My dad had never bought a new set of tyres until he had his first company car! Here's still very much alive and kicking.....
