I'm trying to get an engine (and everything to go with it, including the exhaust) transported from Poole, Dorset to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

I thought i had found a courier (online pallets.co.uk) who say they would drop off a pallet and help pack it up, then deliver it the next day after collection.

however, reading the small print, i can have up to 500kg and 50 items on the pallet which is fine, however no 1 item is to be heavier than 70kg, now i imagine the head and the block will way in excess of that alone.

So my question to anyone is, does anyone know of any companys that will help pack up then engine, or deliver a pallet, then ship it to me?

feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall at the moment!!

Why don't you get a van?

Now not too sure on the dimesions of the engine but I managed to fit a old beetle engine in the boot of my mk4 polo (obviously no gear box or exhaust) and theres plenty of carriers for them?

The small print is there for a reason mind - carriers have weight limits for their tail lifts and how much they can lift of them and how much the employees can carry. To be honest freight companies don't like dealing with the end user - they usually charge more money to a private address and from previous experience are not helpful packing it either.

The engine would fit inthe back of our car that wouldnt be a paroblem, however the 5 hour drive there then 5 hours back is a problem, also i could only do it on a weekend, which isnt possible for the garage i am collecting it from.

It would also cost about £100 in petrol, where as the courier was £75 anyway this is not the issue the question i was asking is does anyone know a courier that would ship the engine to me?

Yes, i have looked all around the internet, but most companys will not take individual items that are over 70kg whic the head and block alone will weigh more than that. (as described in my first post)

I've never found anywhere on the internet that does a decent price on palletised and didn't have 101 different conditions.

I just ring the local depot up and have a chat, then stick the engine on a pallet tied down and shrink wrapped in front of the house and they pick it up.

I've sent 2 engines and a full engine and box like that in the last year without a problem.

If palletline don't want to touch it, try ukpallets.

Its not me sending the engine unfortunatly its a garage who are been the 3rd party in all this.

A local courier is not really going to drive for 5 hours to pick up the engine then drive back for under £100 realistically.

& I cant ask the garage to go buy a pallet and loads of packaging stuff and pack it all up really, its a bit cheeky.

What engine is it? A cylinder head will weigh 10kg at most? Bottom end will be close to 70 but more like 50 in these polo engines.
