I picked this up at the weekend to do up and sell on

I've never seen another in this colour and neither have a few of my mates who are well into their golfs.

It is a '89 1.6 driver in marathon blue metallic (L96M paint code), apparently it was used on the mk2 golf in 1989 only!!

Previously this colour could be found on porsche 914's and vw karmann ghias way back in 1973 and later on mk1 golfs

What do you think?? I like it, certainly a bit different to oak green lol

I got it at a decent price

It has done 200 miles in the last three years totalling a mnimal 113k miles

It is a decent, honest car that is in suprisingly good condition for a 19 year old car......

It has been standing for a while but i have just got it through the MoT today, It needed the following to pass

two front tyres (rears are 200 miles old!)

rear box

1 front shock (fitted two new struts along with new top mounts)

Handbrake was siezed one side (freed it off and adjusted it)

Not for the MoT

rad fan motor was siezed so fitted a new one

heater only worked on postion three so fitted a new resistor pack

Left to do

fit gearstick lower ball as reverse can be selected without pushing the stick down

new discs and pads (slight brake judder)

The previous owner had a new clutch, clutch cable, headgasket, cambelt, plugs, leads, cap, rotor and front wheel bearings fitted so with 4 new tyres all round and all the usual mk2 golf problems ironed out it'll make for a decent little runaround that should not really need much maintenance in the near future

Linezy on elition38 has one in that colour i think, its a nice colour

I'm a fan of that colour, never seen it until now.

seen a few that colour, its not as common as red or any of the normal colours tho

There's a family down the road from my folks that've had a G-plate GTI in this colour (at least it looks the same from the pics) from new.

It's calypso green, I believe.

As for colour I wouldn't know how rare but what does make it rare is the fact that it looks totally unabused.

The above picture demonstrates with a bit of lowerage and even just some oem+ wheels that any mk2 golf can look the business.

I saw a mk2 GTI in that colour a few weeks back and just thought is was Calypso Green. Montana green like my old mk2 GTD (now Andy France's) is another rare colour too. I have only ever seen that on mk2 Drivers and GTD's.

My mk2 is marathon blue, paint code L96M, the sticker is still in the boot and can be read easily

That code is Marathon Blue on ETKA. Looks like Calypso Green replaced it in 1990.
