well said using autosol is like grabbing your granns braso and giving the car more swirls than its already got !!

Don't for fucks sake use autosol, that'll make it worse, its abrasive, its like rubbing cement onto your paint.

Depending on how bad it is, i.e. whether you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, you'll definately have to machine polish it.

If its deep, requiring paint, its a bastard of a job. If not, you might be able to reduce how it looks by giving it a couple of hits with a polishing compound on a machine polisher, not cheap though.

Probably try Sonus FX1 followed by FX2 and FX3, then with a sealant and or a wax over the top.

To be honest, if your thinking of using autosol or wd40 (what the fucks that going to do? make the scratch slide off?) your probably best getting somebody who knows what tehy're on about to do it.

Yep there was a mayday call out on detailingworld, and as i've joined on here and drive a polo, i thought i'd come and help, and now some others are signing up too i think.

But my point is you've never even tried it so how can you pass judgement!??

If you don't think its cut into the paint, maybe try meguiars scratch-x, you can get it from halfords for about £7 iirc, just rub it on by hand and buff off, its very fine abrasive particles might just have enough cut to remove it.

right, ok, first off i need to see if the mark can be rubbed off, there seems to be some stuff on the paint which is why i thought of using wd40 to loosen it? and see if it will be shifted that way. it kind of looks as thouhg u know when another car scratches u on the bumper when they park shitty and their paint has come off on yours except this looks proper more solid and wont budge. there are some bits which are scracthed in but i am more concernec with this stuff first as it may make it look a bit better then i can try and sort out the proper scratches.

Hmmm, is the panel thats been scratched metal or plastic? I would actually go back on what i said earlier and see if WD40 will remove the mark, if its not the paint thats scratched and it is infact some other residue it may well do. If not then it'll be a case of trying some scratch-x.

Worth noting that Autoglym Super Resin Polish, also available from halfords will not only bring up the paintwork a treat, it also has some filling properties, in that it will fill tiny scratches, reducing the visibility of them. of course its also worth noting that it won't last very long unless its sealed in, with a wax of somesort perhaps, I'd reccomend Chemical Guys XXX-Hardcore Paste Wax, Fugging good stuff, £12 for a tub.

BBS RM's by any chance? You ought to sign up to detailingworld and post them in the showroom section, plenty of dub nuts on there who'll appreciate that. Give em a list of what methods you used and they'll be able to correct you for next time if necessary, or just pm me on here if your unsure. Although you do seem like you know what to do already. . .

scratch x is a harshish cutting compound but compaired to autosol its like ky jelly lol

I used T-cut on my tool cabinet at work. awful stuff, stained, didn't remove marks. waste of time i'm afraid.

Scratch - x is basically a more refined T-cut, not so harsh with abrasives, good stuff.

Gold class is either a shampoo or a wax, depending on which one you have. the wax leaves good results but the durability is very poor.

Collinite, I know Kev uses it, lasts months. highly reccomended.
