new boy, new motor!

Featured Replies

alrite guys, bought myself a little project last week. its a 1982 mk2 polo square back. it came in as a px at work for quite cheap so had to have it.

the story is a little old woman has owned it for years and for the last 5months has been driving it with no tax or test, she decided she needed a new car so chopped it in. she used it only to take her dog for walks so you can image what the interior was like!

it took me 5 hours last weekend to get the dog hairs out of it, but now it looks new( photos are decieving). tonight i have mopped the front end and hopefully do the rear 2morrow and finish off re-furbing the steelies. the whole car is original. even the original turny nob stereo is in place. the cars only covered 50k and flew through mot on thursday with 1 advisory! its got a fresh cambelt and also a re-con head and new head gasket!

its got manual windows and sunroof. no pas or servo assisted brakes but it has got HEADLIGHT WASHERS!!!

just look at the fotos and tell me what you all think!

do i go ghetto and get the steelies banded n colour coded and white wall the tyres, add a huge roof rack and chop the springs or do i keep it original, finish it off and sell it on and make a few hundred? alreaddy been offered £400!!

if anybody here might be interested in buying drop me a pm!

thats awesome!! got so many cool retro touches and it looks soooooo mint!! it'd be a shame to modify it, but if you must, banded steelies and lowering is all you need to do ;)

front end looks awesome with the bumper :D love early mk2s :) and brown interior pimps as well...

agreed looks great !!! shouldnt be modded welcome btw

cheers guys glad u all like. if it doesnt sell today(someones coming to view) then expect to see alot lot more from her. shes the perfect colour for a retro/restore/slammed look i think

thats cleannn, i'd say just lower it a bit to make it look a bit cooler. love the front bumper with the washers

What a deadly wee motor.

It's so immaculate it'd be a shame to spoil it by putting a set of mad deep dish rims on it tbh.

I say keep her standard man.

Nice find dude, and welcome to the club :-D

spent another few hours on her last nite. was working untill 2am!!

i cleaned up bay, painted the rocker cover and the belt cover to match the car. next is the rad cowl, bonnet stay and other bits and bobs. hope you all like, sorry for the shitty picture quality as the photos really dont do the car justice

Welcome to the site. That looks like a very nice Polo! I think with that colour and in that condition it will be very desirable.

Welcome and great looking car 8-)

You know all I would do is fit a 60/40 philj kit (see jackson tuning on this sight) or coilovers if your feeling rich, Thats 60mm down the front and 40 at back otherwise it can look like it's arse down.

I wouldn't mess with widened wheels because you can't fit anything wider than 6J on the rear of a square, Fair enough if your gonna mess with the rear arches but car is so mint, I wouldn't touch the paint work.

The only other thing I would do is get an earlier (smaller) washer bottle because that one totally swamps the bay lol.

I wouldn't even take any trim pieces like bump strips off, a few of the German guys have left theirs and I think it looks cool.

Cheers

i already took the door strips off. they were the high up crome 1's that had discoloured badly. the1's that sit at the same level as the door handles. I'm regretting it now as below and above where the strips were are 2 different colours! i work for vw so got straight on the parts data-base and they have been discontinued! oh arse!! but the plan is to either paint the rear quarter on her or to get some silver pinstrip tape from somewhere like halfords and run it along where the different colours meet. the wheels are half way through being sanded for paint and all of the original chrome dishes are still attached and mint as they get!

as for the washer bottle i gotta agree its the most ridiculous sized 1 i have ever seen! (maybe to do with the headlight washers???) theres a seperate 1 in the boot for the rear window washer aswell!

thanks for the comments, going to work on her some more later, will update soon

sorry just to add has anybody got a pic of my shape polo on 60/40's?
