and yes the GTD should be at the polo show, and i'm trying to get this lower than the last (looking in to ways to higher the engine more for more clearance ). so yes snow plough should be in full effect

i think they maybe the deciding factor of how low i can go, not sure i can go much lower (if any) than the old mk2, but the problem with this is the sump is at the same kinda height as the sub frame (on the old 1.3 it was tucked up well out of harms way). so i'm thinking of lifting the engine on some form of spacers, then fitting a sump guard for good measure. as pointed out by the main man tobyk, this would also make the angle of the drive shafts a little less extreme relieving some pressure off the cv joints.

hmm ye see where your coming form with that one, and I'm guessing modding the lower arm mount point s is abit drastic just to go a tad lower.

I'm not sure i woudl be happmy lifting the engine much would you be using alloy lifting brackets as it will vibrate like hell if you do with it being a burner. small brackets and std mounts ontop could well work, jesus all this for a bloody diesel

i've not looked into it that much at the min tbh, gotta get it in the car first and then use some trial and error.

if its a steel sump there was a thread i remember reading ages ago about a mk1 golf man in the states who very slightly made his sump shallower.

He chopped a section out of it and welded it back up, ok he wasent using the car that much but i cant see why that cant be done? if its only a small section it cant be that bad??

got my new wheels today so trial fitted them on the 16v, behold the girth...

they do stick out a bit, BUT the fronts had a 10mm spacer on to clear the calipers (don't think that will be needed on the GTD), and the rear axle on this is out of alinement (the other side has a 10mm spacer on it just to bring it some where near level with this side).

although after fitting these i now know this car is not going to be as low as my old mk2 which has gutted me, but the fact they look so good kinda makes up for it.

btw the fronts are 13x8's and the rears are 13x9's

as said in the post, the offsets will look more out on that due to the spacer and the misaligned axle, but yeah they do stick out a good bit, but hay hoe its a small price to pay for that kinda dish imo

That looks spot on. I think it would look worse with lower profile tyres, they actually fill the arches like that.

i think the G60 arches are a little wider than these ones, i'll have to look in to how much they are tho, i'm not really looking to spend much on this, more of a quick budget project).

i was thinking of putting some 175/55' (i think that was the size any way) that i had on my old power techs on the 8's so theres a little less tire on the front and it'll give it a bit of a raked look., but i'll come to that when i come to it tbh, no great rush at the min.

looks like curries old blob now, and it is a proper chode now, low and fat. something just doesnt look right, front could be a bit lower, or the back raised slightly.

g60 arches are mahoosive but wont cover those, jag r types have like plastic spats that are just flat around the arch lip and cover the tread of the wheel, just make some pikey awning for each wheel and jobs a good un

i was just trying them on my 16v for size and to give me an idea of how far they will stick out. when they go on the other one it will be running coilovers so i can get it sitting right. and as said in 2 of my other posts above, the wheels stick out further on this than they will on the GTD, so G60 arches might do the trick.
