got the polo around christmas time, my girlfriend bought it me as present.

so, so far i havnt managed to get all that much done, I've basicaly just stripped it out and started prepping for paint, so i thought id put some pics up and then keep updating the thread (will make me get more done that way ).....

i had to make the paint shiny before i could decide fully to keep the colour as is, shame its that much of a mess :(

got hold of a badgeless grill too, so tried that on for size...

as long as its finished for the show season next year ill be pretty happy

future plans include, ats classics, coilovers and a few other bits and bobs that I've yet to decide on

Ah looks like a similar project to what Mark and I done 7 years ago. Damn I sound old. We started when we were 14 or 15 so that should take the brunt of it.

So what are the full plans? Any smoothing? Engine mods?

yep some smoothing is in order, the boot will be getting done for starters but other than that I'm not too sure on anything else

as far as engine mods, I'm thinking about just cleaning the current 1l up for the moment, and then eventually buying another engine (not sure what atm) and tuning that up, maybe bike carbs?

will be getting a stainless steel system for it too

other than that, the back seats wont be going back in, and I'm debating about either retrimming the standard seats in leather, or gettin some porsche 944 tombstone seats in, again in leather

ther'll be a false floor in the back, housing a single sub in the spare wheel well, and the false floor will be trimmed in leather too

my main focus is on the arches, especialy the rear ones

my plan is to have it for the show season next year, and enter as many show and shine competitions as possible just because i enjoy detailing so why not try and get somthing out of it?

anyone any ideas about anything else??

any input appreciated

also..want to smooth the runners on the roof, gonna grind off a bit at a time, and weld it straight back up then smooth it out

Sounds like you have big plans mate !

I would get on with the cutting and grinding and welding ect beofre you prep for your paint as you will just have to prep all over again .

What are the plans for the rear arches .. Mk2 Coupe arches ? Mk1 golf arches ?

Keep the project going as much as you can dude :-D

chhers dude...i thought about corrado arches, and I've also thought about mk1 arches aswell, i need at least one of the wheels before i can crack on the arches but money is tight atm so just cracking on with the prepping

once I've got one the wheels then ill have a better idea of what to do with the arches

i really crack on with it, so I've set a strict routine

right i thought this could do with an update, so going back a wee bit (luckily I've been takin pictures :) )

first thing was..

this area need some bodyfiller badly as it was so dented, still need a bit of work but hey ho :)

some more prepping was to be done, just the areas not going to be affected by the arch work...

so with a bit of money saved i bought the first wheel, while i was waiting for it to arrive i decided to try and find the height i liked, just roughly at least, just by cutting the spring until i can afford coilovers

i wont be driving anywhere with theese springs on btw just so people know

i set on 80mm...

the the wheel arrived

after umming and arring about the arches i decided to try extending them, by an inch

after a few tweeks I'm happy with that and have now started fiberglassing that to be followed by som bodyfilling...

so there you go

any furter ideas and comment welcome

Won't the arches flex loads like that? I thought the inner arch and wing were held together forming part of the structure of the shell?? Or am I wrong....

aaanyway always good to see progress! wheels will look nice with the arches :)

its all just experimenting atm mate, but before the fiberglassing they rigid as anything

once its done will be the proof in the pudding

Welding on a peakier arch would be better. Talbot Horizon arches were ideal,but noone makes the wings. MK1 Golf arches are probably your best bet on the front,and Polo coupe rear quarters should match.

after not being happy with the front arches myself, last night as somone said above i took a hammer to the lip thats inside the arch and knocked it out, got that as straight as i could and tested against the wheel to see if it fitted, and it did, so the fronts sorted, need a new drivers side though

I'm still unsure on the back

i thought about using the arch from the front and angling it out more at the and welding it up

should work right??

any other ideas???
