For sale 1977 R reg polo L unfinished G40 conversion

Bodyshell

Miami blue shell with chrome trim. The car is stripped to a rolling shell. The front panel has been trimmed to fit the charger in. It needs some welding on the outer edge of the floors/ cills and rear arches and a few small rust patches on the window apertures but is generally straight and in pretty good condition for 31 years old. Half floor pans outer cills and rear arches from Hadrians panels are included in the sale. The bumpers are bent but the end caps are in good condition, one piece of chrome from the boot lid and the grill chrome from the drivers side is missing all the other side trim is in good condition with all the clips and end caps. There is a spare drivers door with glass as the original has a rust hole at the bottom. I also have a spare rear screen and a pair of rear quarter lights. All the lights original dashboard and clocks etc are all present and in good condition but removed from the car and in storage boxes.

Interior

There is a full G40 interior including the dash, clocks, door cards and carpet, the drivers seat is a little tatty but the rest is fine, there is also a complete mk1 black and white dog tooth interior with blue door cards which is in great condition with no rips or burns. All the lights original dashboard and clocks are all present but removed from the car and in storage boxes.

Suspension

G40 suspension including struts rear beam track rods and steering rack plus a weichers lower strut brace. There is also a spare set of G40 front and rear struts.

Wheels

The wheels are VW teardrop alloys with all the centre caps with good 194/45/14 dunlop sport 2000 tyres all with about 5mm of tread.

Brakes

The brakes are 256mm disks with golf 16v callipers and audi 80 carriers and a brand new tilton bias adjustable master cylinder. The original G40 brakes are also included.

Engine

The engine is from a j reg G40 and has done about 160000 miles in total ,it was rebuilt by myself at about 145000 miles using PSD accralite 77mm pistons making it 1341cc.The main and big end bearings were replaced along with all the bearing cap bolts and head bolts and oil seals. The rods were balanced. The crank and rods were checked and found to be within factory tolerances for a new engine .I have a folder full of history to prove the car has been looked after all its life. The head is a big valve(1mm larger exhaust) ported head which was done by PSD using new valve stem oil seals and hydraulic lifters there is also a PSD newman cam which has never been fitted it also has a GT inlet manifold ported to match the head and PSD ported and de wedged throttle body. The charger is ported to a similar spec as a PSD full blend with larger inlet ports transfer ports and outlet it has has had all the oil seals and scroll seals and bearings replaced with PSD items this work was carried out at the same times as the engine rebuild. There is a set of PSD toothed belts which are brand new and never fitted. The radiator and intercooler are from a company called radtec and were made to suit the engine and fit the confines of a mk1 polo engine bay . The rad is fitted with a pacet fan . There is also a mocal oil cooler and filter takeoff plate. I also have the original G40 intercooler and rad. The gearbox is standard G40 item and works fine although with the mileage would probably benefit from a rebuild. It had a new clutch when the rebuild was done. All the wiring loom and ecu is complete and is in good condition it was re taped when I did the rebuild.

I think I have included everything there are a lot of parts with the car.You will need a trailer

and a car with a big boot. I am located in Lichfield in the midlands if you want to view the car/parts.I will upload some pictures in the week

£1500 or I may split if there is enough interest
