alright guys

what is the best way to go about decaring the conversion.

i know i have to get a letter etc and send it off to the dvla

but my question is, does the car then become a g40, or does it still say gt on the log book, with a different engine

is it possible just to say i have supercharged my engine, as its still the same capacity?

what is the correct thing to do?

what have others done?

i carried out the conversion myself, however the dvla want a garage reciept, where am i ment to find one from lol?

also the car is sorn at the moment, and one month late on declaration, therefore i owe a month of tax, can i tax the car before the new log book come back?

please help

The only thing you can actually change on the logbook is the engine number, but you have to be careful that you don't use an engine from a car that has already been declared as scrapped - the best thing to do is to stamp the block with a couple of extra digits yourself so the engine number is unique.

They won't change the identity of the car from a GT to a G40 as it wasn't originally registered as a G40, so it will stay as a GT.

Why do they want a garage receipt? There shouldn't be any issue with changing the details, as you're not going to be paying less tax or anything.

You should be able to tax the car online if you have a tax reminder, or you may have to go to your local DVLA office and enquire as to whats best to do if the V5 is currently away being altered.

how would i find out if the car the engine came from is scrapped, i have the number plate?

once i have declared the new engine, when say the police or mot centre run my plate, will it be possible to see that the car now has had a conversion?

what would i then tell the insurance? would i have to declare the conversion if its been declared to dvla or will they already have the details on the system?

the dvla have to have a certified engineers report from a garage on headed paper to confirm the engine is fitted to the chassis (numbers of both recorded) to stop 'tax fraud' etc.

not sure what it would be registered as? possibly supercharged gt? when i started driving i put a 1.3 engine in an astra gte and the logbook came back as a 1.3 gte but insurance saw it as a 1.3 merit???
