My Dad won an RAC one and its really good

Yeti,if you're on a motorway and dont know what junction you need to get off of,then perhaps you need to sort your planning out. And you question my answers..

No offense but that's a little presumptuous. What are you meant to do if you're somewhere you don't know at all, like on a long journey. Are you meant to stop every so often and read the map and then remember the next 5 or so junctions, or read a piece of paper you've written them all on? That's pretty much the same as just using a satnav.

Well. Maybe i should be more open minded. I'm locked in the idea that people have been knowing their next turn for countless decades and suddenly cant drive down one road without stopping on the hard shoulder to check a map. I've never needed one,and contrary to popular accusation, there's nothing particularly special about me. Though i do pay attention to what I'm doing, which just may be treasurous.

On the flip side,i didnt say i was against them altogether - they're just an easier-to-read road map after all,and have additional benefits. If all the info you need is the name of the next road or junction,a small and subtle display down in your instrument cluster should suffice. Not a bright screen up in your face with a synthesized voice that doesnt shut up for five minutes and..

Woah Woah Woah Mikey. Its only a Satnav mate. Calm down.

I kind of agree with MikeyMK. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a "voice only" satnav? As for planning your journey on motorways - you only have to remember the junction number, don't you?

so if i phone tomtom with a fault on my unit, i have to speak to someone in holland?

are the calls free?

cuz f*ck paying that call charge. just take it back to where i got it.

I used to have sexy selina as my tomtom voice.. made my driving experience a lot more pleasureable...

"At the roundabout, turn right, oh you make me so horny baby"

"Congratulations, Your have reached your destination, you can have my pu**y as your prize"

Or words to that affect.. LOOOOOOOOOOL

The comical voices are great.. I had YODA to for when my step mum was in the car!

Well c'mon, you tell us all you work for Tom Tom, what cool stuff can you tell us to do with ours????

I never call anyways, I just hit the reset button.

we like people like you!!

haha

alot of people call up and say the following, (while i say my name, ask them how they're doin)

"yea, my uhhh my tomtom is broken."

"whats it doing? or not doing...?"

"i dunno its just not working!"

so the people who can take care of the small stuff are good.

if the reset manouver ever fails for you, lemme know >_=

LMAO yea... what I've told people to do on the phone is this:

set the voice to japanese, and then pretend like you know what the guy/girl is saying to you when you have to turn left/right.

it impresses the fuck outta your friends!!

as for the whole distraction debate, i think it depends on the type of driver you are. if you have what i call "drivers A.D.D."

then anything thats bright and makes noise in your field of vision, is NOT a good idea!

lol

also, as for the whole reset thing, to be honest, i do not know whyyyyyyyyy it works, all i know is that if it doesnt work, it needs to be repaired!

oh

and as for calling to holland, you wont need to pay long distance, you call a relay number which then calls holland, so its like calling local:)

I've already gotten 3 people asking for tomtom help!

maybe i can organise a group buy?

how many people are somewhat interested in getting one of these?

i think i can get a decent discount (30%)

post-it notes with rally-style drawings & numbers in the middle of the steeering wheel FTW!

is there a sat nav available that knows the heights of bridges, i drive a HGV and it can be a wee bit frustrating when it sends you miles down a route and then half a mile before the bridge, Your fucked?

Thats an amazing idea.. I've never heard of one though :S

It would be a simple case of adding POI's for bridges that are too small for you prehaps and make it FLASH a warning at you?

I've got one its not great but gets me to where i want to go most of the time

theres a dual carraidge way at the bottom of my road and theres a point where it tells you to turn right into my road but you cant as there is a barrier there which has been there for over 25 years and then 200 yards down the road it will then tell u to do a u turn but theres signs telling you your not allowed and they have been there since the junction was opened

i have tom tom one but the battery is crap doesn't hold charge

there is a website that does this:http://www.lowbridges.com

its a POI that lets the truckin boys, and the people with non-lowered polos know where most low bridges are

i have a navman and its great give e al deal i need and is useful when trying to find nearest POI as they come up on the screen as u go past :D

never had a problem with it so I'm all happy !!!

how old is it, and how long does it hold its charge?

i have a mate in holland an it takes the piss paying the long distance charges to call him, can i just send him to your workplace and call the tomtom helpline? :)

how long is a tom tom one supposed to hold a charge

i can finish a journey with a full battery and 2 days later it will be flat and need plugging in again !

i er modded mine too

Maybe i could warm to a cyclists version of this. chin.gif

It'd tell me where the next pub is,how steep the next big hill is and how to avoid tracks that run through thorn bushes and nettles. Less adventurous maybe, but that's the modern way.

£6.99 AA map from halfrauds FTW!!

Not very useful if you're completely lacking the ability to read maps though :crybaby:
