Apparently I was sighted in mid May riding vehicle X705 PGT around the A406 in London.

So, I sent them this back:

Dear Sir/Madam

I write regarding your letter dated 19/06/2008, in which you allege use of my Peugeot Scoot’Elec registration number X705 PGT whilst on a SORN.

This vehicle has been in storage for 2 years, and not been used on the road in this time. Therefore, I can only assume that this is an instance of someone using a false numberplate to disguise their own.

It is also worthy of note that the Scoot’Elec is an electrically-propelled motorcycle (as indicated on the log book). This means that:

a) It is excempt from VED. Therefore there would be nothing to gain from me riding it on whilst it is a SORN, when I can tax it for free.

b) It has a range of 30 miles between charges. I understand from your letter that the alleged offence occurred on the North Circular in London. This is some 150 miles away.

I would appreciate if you would write to me to confirm that you are taking no further action against me. If you wish to continue with this matter, please could you send me the relevant witness statements, photographic/videographic evidence, and any other materials which you are likely to use as evidence.

Alternatively, I see from your letter that the court may rule that I pay five times the annual amount of duty for the vehicle. I am happy to offer this as a settlement. Although please do bear in mind the current rate of Vehicle Excise Duty for an electric vehicle. I enclose a cheque for this amount. If you choose not to accept this offer, please return the cheque as soon as possible.

And included a cheque for 5 times the annual tax rate for the vehicle..... which is electric.... therefore taxed for £0 a year.

I'm not sure if they're going to try and bank a cheque for £0.00, but if they do, it'll probably come back as I inadvertantly signed it J. Shit

If they answer, I'm considerring making it as hard as possible for them so they have to take me to court, just for comic value.

my nan got one for her white nova abandoned in bimingham 100+ miles from her home dated 6 months after she had died and our local council had been paid to dispose of the car 5 months previous!

after lengthy arguments and letters to the DIVLA and questioning the council how a car they disposed of was back on the road, they denied all knowledge until a reciept was shown which caused some red faces! the DIVLA wrote back and said 'on this occasion no further action was to be taken' against my nan and the £300 fine would be waved! well they'd have a hard job taking her to court!!!

I'm another one that's had problems with the DVLA, I had 3 separate letters for my Vitara, 1st one saying tax is going to run out (I'd scrapped it and sent them the V5) so I replied with a letter explaining the circumstances, 2nd one was saying if I don't pay tax I'm going to court, I sent them another letter and a copy of the original, and then 3rd I got a letter saying they were informing me I would need to make a court appearance so they can reclaim the VED money. On this instance, I wrote another letter which I also got signed by a solicitor friend... Never heard anything since!

They really are a bunch of fucktards.

i've just been fined by these twats for not resorning a car, its amazing how they never seem to forget to send you a reminder when your tax is running out, but when your sorn is coming to an end they seem to forget, which surprisingly is the only way they can get money out of the sorn thing.

I HATE DVLA.
