yet another bike carb Q.. overfuelling??

Featured Replies

rite so i just test run my carbs on my car to see if all was okay before i get some other bits back..

now its fireblade carbs on a boggbros manifold.. the engine is a 1.3 NZ.. i bought these carbs and was told they were set up as they where already off a 1.3 polo..

the regulators are set at 2.5 psi and run at that nicely..

but the car starts.. and will rev up etc but wont idle, backfires every now and then, and appears to be spitting atomised fuel back out of the carbs when u press the throttle..

any ideas as to what I've done wrong or how i can sort it?

oh its still running the NZ ignition system, i know this isnt advised, but i was going to modify the throttle position switch to fit?..

or is this my problem? do i need to advance my timing or something?

any help appreciated..

cheers

Dene

you'll need to fit a different dizzy, from an early polo, with the centrifugal advance. You wont be able to get it to run right on that dizzy.

I had a similar problem as you initially, it would rev but not idle, OR if i messed with the timing i could get it to idle but not rev.

Get to a scrappy and get a dizzy, module and assoc. wiring off a 1.0, 1.1, 1.3 polo or mk2 golf. Make sure its PRE-spi, and has an electronic distributor that has the 'flying saucer' canister on the side. Mine cost £10. solved it all.

ahh c now my NZ has an electronic dizzy with a vaccum saucer thing on the side.. looks the same as me mates 1.3 polo (mk2)

so do you reckon that will work with the module and coil?

cheers..

Sorry to hi-jack, but joel will my original dizzy work? (1.4 8v 6n) it hasnt got any vacuum pipes coming off of it???

You need dizzy and amp from a mk2 1985-1990, its has the mechanical ignition advance in it

I've got the coil, ign amp and wiring etc but not the dizzy? how does my original advance just out of curiosity?

it uses the throttle position sensor and other sensors (air, cam etc) and its advanced via the ecu then matey

it uses the throttle position sensor and other sensors (air, cam etc) and its advanced via the ecu then matey

But it hasnt got aa throttle position sensor, its a cablee throttle, and the only plug on the dizzy (other than the HT leads obviously) is the hall sender, no vacuum pipes, nothing????

i mean the original system, it uses all the sensors on the engine, via the ecu to advance the ignition via the coilpack

You do need the 86-90 MK2 Polo dizzy, also found on MK2 1.3 Golfs and Jettas. They're still made, iirc.

I tried a 96 mpi dizzy because it was smaller and newer,i had one with cap and rotor, and it didnt work.

Did you get this sorted?

I'm having kinda the same problem with my Mk2 Golf 1.3, lot of petrol coming out from under the trumpets from small bass heads/overflows, I have a 86 engine fitted to an 84 model, i have tranfered the ign module from the 86. car starts & idles but it just floods itself, once it conks out

its very hard to start again, any ideas or help,

My carbs are from a CBR 600

I'm using a fuel pump from a CBR but it has a mitisbushy logo on the case?

Thanks

Dan

I'm sorted now, found the prob

which was ?

well seeing no nice person would help me i downloaded the CBR manual of the CBR forums, printed off the fuel section, it seemed on my carbs

2 pipes where connected which shouldn have been, they where fuel breaher pipes which control the floats, once disconected shes running great now.

i think they are pressure pipes that connect to the air box (its to do with ram air)and they need to bo be connected or fuel vapours will leak into your engine bay

ill just run longer pipes to the sub frame they can vapour away, the car wont run rite with them connected sure I've sen the results
