Brilliant to see this has happened, I was wondering when you would finish it lol. Hope all is well running in and it lasts okay. Any chance of a video link of it running sometime soon?

its been asked several times what are the differences with the abd block

the only hickup i found was that the abd uses a plastic water pipe at the rear , the coolant tank hose still fits but isnt quiet right and one of the matrix ones does not fit on the mk2 , you will either need to use a 16mm-20mm adaptor to join the mk2-abd hose or im told some late mk2f have the correct hose

also run a tap in the threaded holes in the block as some arent used on the golf and will be rusty /full of crap

right ive got 400 miles on it now , dual gt style exhaust manifold and downpipe on , seems like a worth while swap if you can find cheap enough

lots of torque around 2500-3500 and nips along nicely as the torque peaks at some usefull speeds..although runs out of puff about 5200 , i think it would probably wake up a bit with a GT cam but im reluctant to bother with the elec fuel pump and all the wiring etc

I would say the GT cam is well worth the hassle of wiring in a leccy fuel pump having driven an AAV with and without back to back. Granted one had MPI but the driving experience was miles better and it was like a completely different engine

How you getting on for oil leaks etc? My 3F seems to be eating cam oil seals...wondering if it's to do with having no breather on the cam cover or maybe the block breather being blocked

seems alright on the oil seals so far...blocked breathers will make them leak so well worth checking them

how would describe the gt cam differences ?    i guess its something i can look at or maybe a newman

Yeah I think I better remove my breather and have a look at it, grandad said his old GT had the same problem every so many thousand miles

GT cam made it more responsive at low revs, but then after about 4k I think..(don't have a rev counter to check) it pulls almost like it found another 100cc...only way I can explain it is like a weaker version of the Vtec kick. Personally looking for a Newman now as I can rev to 8k but I have a power drop by time I get there with the standard GT cam in.

yeah sounds like what i need tbh...does rev better than the old MH but isnt what youd call a revvy engine by any means

hard to find any reviews on polo newman cams ....fair bit of wedge if its not right

I can still hear the Haribo ear-worm jingle in German. Are you going to use them to measure the valve to piston clearance?

Did you find this on ebay? I saw a NOS head just like it and thought about getting it in a similar 'why not' mood. Be good if it was the same one!
