well another ebay buy has arrived!

ebay buy number 1 was a set of alloy super minifin rear drums for £35 (retail at about £110), i was going to buy a hydraulic setup and after buying a level and it arriving only for me to find out it was a horizontal style and being told the vertical type i wanted was no longer available i had to settle for these.

they arrived in red, but as these aid cooling and improve braking efficiency (sp) quite abit and me thinking paint isent that breathable surely this was going to be a dissadvantage.... so out came the paint stripper and wire brush an hour or so later i had them both like this:

as these were designed for a mini they dont exactly fit....

the retaining screws are to short (designed for metro non spacered drums) so I'm going to have to source some mini retaining screws and some longer wheel bolts to accomodate the extra inch in the drum. also as metros dont have spacered rear drums these are about an inch wider so the wheels sit even wider in the arches.... i dotn have any pics of this but i will when its all sorted

noooooope, but they shall be here soon

the strt brace wd be useless as the suspension units are within the subframes not the body, I'm havinga full cage next year, 12 pointer hopefully.

another update folks, bootlid internal section and drivers wing are 75% done, theyve been red oxide rollered just to protect them , the whole thing will be flatted and high build primered when al the fillering is done :-)

In a an affort to save weight i decided the bootlid wasent all that structural so out came the the hole saw... the recessed bit you wont see as its under the carbon sheet, its the outer bits you will see

the wing was all rolled with the aid of a hammer and a block of wood, no dollies or fancy equipment, proper pikey enginering but tbh i dont think its turned out bad :-)

every pound counts, its all the small bits that when u put all the removed metal on the scales when its done and the sound deadening e.t.c that you really see the differances

if you think this is bad for weight saving you should see my mini....

got me a steel braided oil feed pipe from the turbo to the block (2 ft long with new banjos and seals e.t.c) and a 2 ft oil cooler hose with streight connections for £35.

Priced it up on a mini site they wanted £55 for the turbo hose and £70 for a oil cooler kit (two hoses) so about 35 each (very roughly) so 90 quids worth.... steal or what :p

Well I've managed to get another lead for the the camera (had to get a new one as the dog sabotaged (sp) the original one)

heres the arch's after getting cut up and the custom turrets being welded in:

Before with coilies just placed inside:

Inside wheel arch as std (you can also see the fuel hose in this pic )

And all seam welded in before the gussets get welded into the bottom, all joints in this shot are covered with seam sealer inside and out, just need satin black i was going to leave the welds showing but its about more subtle and OEM with them covered :
