obvious similarities to 6ns, which i was originally looking for, theres a low milage one going for cheap, what are anyones experiences of them? yes? no?

My wife has had a Mk2 8V Cupra Sport from new (R reg). It's been very reliable as it's basically a Mk2 Golf with the 2 litre GTi engine and no fancy electronic rubbish. Handles and stops very well but isn't stunningly quick. They can rust on the rear arches, have a heavy clutch, and the clutch pedal brackets sometimes break off. Insurance is high for Gti/Cupra models. The 1.4 is OK/well equipped if a bit slow and softer suspension (my mum has a 1.4 Mk3 Ibiza). The 1.0 litre versions are totally gutless. I've got a MK4 Cupra turbo. Slightly quicker than a mildly tuned G40.

its a 98 1.4 SXE. I've found that its actually the same insurance group as my mk3! the mileage is very very low and its just a shade over a grand.

Well don't be expecting performance if it's a 1.4... A 1.0 Mk3 will piss all over one

As said they are just a heavier Mk2 Golf so do most things reasonably well, it just helps to have a proper engine up front.

Mine was a '97 GTi 1.8 16v and it was boring. Did everything well,i suppose.

A friend has just sold his 1998 Mk2 Ibiza 16v (ABF engine) and it was a pretty good car, although there just a mix of various VW's they're still fun cars although imho the handling is pants unless you get serious with it (i.e. polybushed throughout and coilies etc). The 1.4's are ridiculously underpowered though but as said do do everything else pretty damn well and i think they look pretty good to ?!

Thers only one version to get to be totally satisfied and that is the 2.0 16v GTI. I would say the Cupra, but a real one doesn't come with A/c and sunroof...as i found

Great handling, good looks and very very fast for what it is.

as you might be able to tell i'm very happy with my mk2 ibiza

I personally reckon the top models look the nuts & arent exactly slow, plus a big importance to me is a bit of exclusivity (id hate to see another of the same car everytime i went to work etc..)...a few weeks ago a black one with white seat sport wheels had a go against me on a dual carriageway, looked sooo good!...definately alot faster than my old 6n2 gti, put up a good fight against me(my 250brake mk3 cupra). Go for it, i'd have one if i didnt have my mk3

I find Seats are far more performance orientated & because of this modding them in that style is very easy & works well..not saying you cant euro a seat tho...btw dubgarry & sooty, yours both look lovely...what sort of power do you push out with a charger bolted on?

A family member has a Mk4 (02 plate?) Ibiza 1.4 16v.

Despite looking quite good (alloys, metallic paint etc), it has terrible performance. You can feel its too bunged up with electrics and ECU limiting etc, has no raw power and definately feels like its been de-tuned.

Stepping out of that into the Polo GT is like going back in a time-warp to the 80's. Feels totally raw, rough around the edges, but when you put your foot down, the response is instant.

I have an Arosa though and the 1.4 8v in that pulls very nicely. So I guess it just depends.

hada T plate gti 8v brand new n loved it!! only had it a year tho as i wrapped it round a lamp post..

The mk2 are good cars u can fit from a 1.8t engine, vr6 lump, g40, g60 engines in them I'm happy with my g40 powered one

see if i could have afforded it, i would have bought amk3 cupra, hence why i settled with the GTi. A mk3 cupra is on my list of "next cars" though

My mate has a mk2 1.4, looks the tits IMO and doesnt go too badly.....but i piss all over him in my 1.3 mk3
