Firstly i got the car at 17 and insured it in my mums name for £1200 fully comp, tis now renewal time and got a letter saying it was going up to £1620 thats with Frizzell.

So i looked around online and the prices seem to be going up stupidly quickly, about a month ago i asked for a quote from Tesco and it came back about 700 and now i just called them they want 1500, more than doubling in 4weeks!

cheapest on go compare atm are more than at 800 odd but after calling they said they wouldnt insure me at all!

W T F is going on!

Just went for another quote on go compare and morethan just came back at 620!

Its like they cant make up their minds

This is in my mums name and me as a named driver with no NCB

because they know your fronting bite the bullet n get you are own policy thats what I'm doin :-(

Why do people just jump to conclusions?

Sure its fronting when its my mums car, she owns it,she drives it,she taxes it we share the insurance, she puts petrol in it.

But ye obviously because i drive it as well it must be fronting :retard:

I didnt even mention anything to do with fronting etc

I was stating the way that insurance companies can change the premiums by so much so quickly.

How can you say stuff like that when you dont know details?

because they know your fronting

Hate online quotes, always come back different, you most certainly always get cheaper quotes phoning up. I did my insurance online, wish i phoned them instead now, sure it would have been cheaper, at the end of the day they probably knew i could have got it cheaper phoning but they're not going to tell you are they. Bastards.

Thats what i thought so she called them and they said they wouldnt be able to insure me at all.

so again i went online about 5 mins ago put in exactly the same details and suprise suprise its changed again lol but this time to £607.70

TBH I'm very happy with this as the next best quote was 1005.90

Looks like I'm gona even be able to pursuade my mum to get some coillies n alloys for it with the money i'l have saved on insurance, as they state in their FAQ that they will insure mods as long as it doesnt affect top speed or acceleration.

Policies on modifications vary throughout the companies. You need to ask about mods because some companys dont allow any. One i called the other day accepted anything performance if it was <10BHP. And cosmeticly was no limits i think.

Its all good, will just call them asking an 'in theory if i was to...' question lol

Coilies do increase your top speed

I'm 18 and pay 1500 a year tpft on my 16v mk4.... thats with a years ncb

Right iv decided I'm gona go in my mums name for the next 3 months til I'm 19 and then i'l get the car in my name n my own insurance.

Simply becasue admiral offered me 1064 f/c in my name with both parents as named drivers from my 19th bday. Pretty good i suppose as i have no NCB.

And my mum made the mistake of sayin she had 9yrs no claims when it turns out she has 2 yrs! so the premiums jumped from 607 to 907 or (£75 a month as there was no deposit. so for an extra 150 i can start gettin my own ncb.

Be careful as the Admiral NCB you earn can only be redeemed @ Admiral who may will probably not be the cheapest when you come to take out your own policy

But the policy with Admiral will be on my own policy.

Its the morethan policy that will be in my mums name that I'm going on for the next 3 months

Sorry for any confusion

i think thats only with their 'ncb bonus accelerator" 10month policies

What do you mean by this? I don't fully understand insurance terms I'm with Directline, I'm a 2nd driver on the policy yet I was under the belief I would be earning ncb even if it was only recognised by DL themselves :x:?

  • Author

Its just an incentive offered to customers to try and get them to buy their insurance, i have a few mates with directline like this and it doesnt seem as if their 'ncb' as 2nd drivers will change anything when they change insurers. unless they go for a yr with DL and then leave with say 3yrs ncb

Old fart question-what is fronting

when people insure it in mummy or daddies name whenthey are the main driver.............basically a scam that shoves all the other premiums up if they smack it as mummy or daddy lose their ncb and we pay

Its just a waste of time really, proves to be not a great deal cheaper in the long run, your farting around looking for the cheapest quote now, where-as you could have had your own ncb and need not have bothered, because it would probably have halved after the first year anyway.

  • Author

i'm going to disagree.

1st yr they would have wanted around 2800f/c

2nd yr they wanted 2500f/c

this yr most places still wanted around 2500

those are figures i got when i came to renew each time and putting in how 1yr and 2 yrs ncb to see how much it came out as.

so thats over 7k insurance if it was all in my name.

-----------------------

but in my mums it was 1200 at 17

then i had it at 900 (then got cancelled due to mod)

so now its in my name at 1560

so in my case its cost me for 3yrs insurance about 3k.

not bad considering my mate next door is same age as me and has a 1.2 corsa and paid 2200 1st yr and 1400 2nd yr
