He classed it as being in a dangerous and unroadworthy condition. i didnt get a 7day to fix it slip..etc just gave me 3points!

What is the CORRECT law on this ? i dont want to know wha your mate down the pub thinks it is. I'm gonna take it to court.

It's difficult, the law and MOT are two different things.

Foxie, the best thing you can do is seek legal advice, citizens advice legal aid may be able to advise you.

Arguing with the police isn't going to work, showing your MOT slip and other documents may help if you can prove that the vehicle was tested with those wheels however, as the wheels protrude the arches the police officer does have ground to stand on.

You need to look up the construction and use part of the road traffic act, I believe that tells you what you is allowed/not allowed. Passing an MOT doesn't mean your car is 100% legal.

I think the outcome was that ACAB!!! Surely this is the true definition of scene tax!! Hope you come out on top tho.

in my opinion arguing to the police gets u nower..... i have learnt from previous experience lol, citizens legal advise bureau is you are best bet and as quinny said showing you are documents for roadworthyness would help

An btw did they take any photos of you are car and the wheels sticking out of the arch? if not then i would suggest that you try getting them inside the arch.... dont no you are setup? but do it before you take legal action!! :) good luck pal

How would you not let the police touch you, say piss off? also imagine him getting stopped for his wheels

They took pics too with a tape measure against the bodywork

surely its going to be cheaper to get your arches rolled then pay £60 and 3 points everytime. your car stands out police are going to look for things they can nick you for.

it'll need a hell of a lot more than a simple arch roll to get them tucked under...

I've been running wheels like that for 2years solid now and this is the first time I've ever heard of being issued points for it...

well personally i think you had it coming... wheels that stick out that much are daft anyway a nice bit of poke ok but thats too far imho.

Try camber shims or narrower wheels!

hmm what about if you add major camber so the top of the wheel and tire is under but the bottom pokes out abit?

Sorry to say, but theres little chance of winning an argument with dibble. Imho its one of those things that you risk getting fined/points for like other stuff like pressed plates etc. In my eyes theres nothing wrong with it but its whatever the geezer that pulled you over thinks that matters :(

after reading this thread, i spent 2-3 hrs searching VOSA, construction and use regs, and also the sva test, i couldn't get a definative answer anywhere, the best i could come up with was to buy the sva test book for £37, but i have found an interesting link, funnily enough, to this very site

Not sure how much of the wheel has to be in the arch either...clearly only the very top is close to being under the arch there. Like I said in that thread volksnorm linked to Caterham etc. have to cover their wheels to be legal.

Exactly, its a pathetic law/rule. I got pulled the other week for wheels pertruding the arches, but luckily didnt get anything.
