Sounds bad, does it do it more when;

accelerating

decelerating

hot

cold

??????

not really when it first happened there was loads of it, but when i re started there was a little trail of it.

i didnt notice any difference with it when accelerating and that, but it was at night when it happened

could b you are head gasket going?

^^^^ i agree with that. My headgasket went on my old mk2 and there was smoke coming from every bloody where! Check your head gasket isnt completely shagged and i suggest NOT using your car.

Take your spark plugs out. If one is different around the electrodes (like has oily deposits on it) than the others,the head gasket has likely failed around that cylinder.

Head gasket by sound of it.

Sounds like its gone pretty bad, if its white smoke its just steam so will be coolant going into the engine if its blue its burning oil. which could be why you had to top oil up. Generally you dont top oil up unless you have a leak or a knackered engine. Or do ALOT of miles.

You don't have far too much oil in do you? Check your dipstick isn't knackered and you're not over-filling it.

cheers for the help guys,

turned out i had topped up the oil to much
