What got you into cars?

Featured Replies

brother,he had a mini as his first car,he used to let me do handbrake turns in it at his work when i was a youth, but he never had that on the road, then he had an escort van, decked, was mint, then he got into rs turbo's,he had a couple of rapid one's then he had a really bad fall at his missus' work and got a phat compo claim,he bought his first dub,a 1971 beetle, seriously decked, this got me into dubs, but because I'm not hardcore enough to rock an aircooled just yet,nor am i grown up enough...i got a polo,i now have a 1984 mk2 golf, which I'm restoring to some kinda glory...

i too play with my brum brums on that city carpet, love it :p

I've always been into cars since I was little. Was always clued up on new models and even optional extras etc when I was 8 lol

Cant remember what started me loving them, i just do.

I remember getting subscriptions to car mags for xmas when i was about 5.

I also remember back then, this house up the road from me, they had a red, a white and a black capri lined up on their drive and i used to perv on them all the time, and also a couple of houses up a modded bronze opel kadett c, ohhh baby. And my mate who lived behind me, his da had a mental sky blue beetle modded to the tits too.

Dunno, I've always been into them. I think a lot of lads just are?

Although the funny thing is when I was young my mum used to get annoyed at the toy cars everywhere. Thought it would get better as I got older but the toys got exchanged for car parts and is worst than ever now

C'mon, admit it, you still push the diecast models around the floor at night to keep yourself amused, making a brum brum noise too!!

You mean I'm not the only one :paranoid:

third that :-p

In my bedroom I've got that carpet with roads on it for my matchbox collection ! :paranoid::ninja::lol:

My Dad was always working on his cars when I was a kid and as my brother is a lot younger than me it was always me that was helping. Then when I was old enough to drive he insisted that I knew how to carry out basic maintenance and to do roadside repairs. I've loved cars and motorbikes since then really :-D

Was probably my Dads old Cavalier was stupidly fast and over equipped with all the extra trimmings and I thought from then on that i'll never want a boring bog standard car ever

And imo whatever is left over from your wages once you've paid vast amounts of bills and all the other shite we all needlessly need to fork out for I think wasting it on trying to kill yourself with as much alcohol as possible every weekend just doesn't appeal to me so I spend it on my car but it is usually fixing & replacing things for the majority of the time rather than modifying the car :lol:

true actually id rather spend my money on cars rather then taking substances that are a waste of money and potentially deadly as like some of my friends

My ex boyfriend. He used to own a polo. But as i grew up with two brothers with lots of toy cars, who didnt want to play barbies i had no choice but to make brum brum noises too haha. My dad goes through cars like they are going out of fashion too, my mother has always said I'm as bad as him so i guess i got an interest from him too.

my dad, he used to collect old beetles, do them up and sell them or show them. he got on the cover of vw action many many years back with an orange beetle he restored!

gone full circle really, he was into vw and so am i lol!

started cleaning them...then helping dad fix his various motors, learnt how the engine worked....passed ma test, mum had a mk3 bready which i aquired...that wa it, sold for life lol

Always been obsessed with cars... Grandad is a panel beater/sprayer and ran his own garage at one point, so sort of runs in the family.

I did have a hell of a lot of model cars too

Mix up of obsession, getting the bus in the rain and my bro's MK1 Golf GTI Campaign.

My dad got me into them.

He had a few serious power cars back in the 90s (when he was in his 20s).

Ranging from:

Corrado storm (x2)

Genuine Dimma 205 1.9 gti Turbo (240bhp)

Few R5 GTTs

Audi S4.

S1 Escort RST.

Loads of others too, and i used to read a lot of his car magazines too (poper early 90s performance mags), and played with toy cars a lot and watched my dad work on his cars that always broke because of the power :p

Been into cars since i was 2 or 3 years old, dad taught me basic things like changing wheels/checking oil etc when i was around 5 years old, i was also big into motorcross at the time aswell.

Dad has worked in garages all his life as either a mechanic, salesman, manager etc. So I pretty much grew up in car garages.

Was heavily into motorbikes throughout my childhood as a result and then when I was old enough sold my Honda CR 250 to buy a VW Polo :) and have never looked back since.

Got into VW because of the quality of them.

I've always been into my cars, pushing em around the carpet and on the village, my favorite car was either the audi quattro or the lotus (but now its my ferrari enzo!) a lad down my road had a nova and it was awesome i still love em now (without the stick on parts tho!) it was like the colour of the r5 but darker, lowered, black rims and a cherry bomb, loved it, I'm pretty sure it was a 2ltr, my family was never into cars they liked there bikes which i love just as much as my dubs! i always wanted a splitty! wen my mate started driving around in his corsa i knew i had to be better! the b*****d then got a mk5 gti!

enjoying dubs is a passion more of a hobby!

my dad owns the family run garage. i never really stood a chance, what the confirmed it for me was growing up and seeing/helping my dad and brother do ground up restoration on a mini as his first car (mid 90's), then a mk1 fiesta as my sisters first car (one year on), then watching my brother get into sprint racing and do a season of mini miglia (00-02). when it came my turn to drive in January06 i had the choice of a 95 clio or a 89breadvan. thank fuck i listened to my old man and bought the older and slower of the 2.

never looked back really, i doubt i'll ever have anything but a VW or VAG atleast.

I have a toy Lupo in my car that I play with in traffic :p

It was my dad =) he's had dubs since before i was born and iv grown up around them :-)

my mums brother and dad own roseburn garages in edinburgh and have always been into volkswagens, a VW beetle cake for her brothers 50th, loads of pics of beetles and campers on everyones bedroom walls at their houses and my two uncles kids were always reading volksworld so i always flicked thru looking at the old skool beetles drooling.

One of the uncles is really into his old mercedes, had a 500 or 300 sl and some big old skool merc barge in mint condition (not the one in the pictures, its an old A or B plater, hes also got an old beetle (the j plater int pics), an old skool supra think its a 3.0l NA.

they were both made up when i went up to scotland in the G40 as they hadnt seen any for years.

heres a couple of them, the stretch used to be red and has been paraded at the edinburgh festival then sat dormant for 7 years or so, was revived about 5 years ago now in silver this time and used for weddings and special occasions, family and show use tho not hire
