Hey guys, I'm looking for a power supply to power up my seats, I've ran the loom and currently have the 4 wires near the fusebox, 2 pos, 2 neg, does anyone have any idea were i can find a suitable supply??

Not sure what year your polo is but the later ones have direct supply from the battery fixed via a 10mm nut next to the fuse box.

the earlier 6n's have a blade plug which plugs on the back of the fusebox, there's usually a few spare blade's you can use as a supply.

sorry forgot to say that is for + feed theres an earth point on the side by the fuse box in the bonnet release area.

humm , the fuse box sounds abit scary, is this quite a easy job? I'm quite compitant around the rest of the car, just havnt been near that dredded fuse box lol

What year is your car?

does it have a 'fuse box' with relays etc (white i think) all in one or a long strip of fuses (black)

its a 97 16v m8, old style with old clocks ect :)

If you unscrew the little plastic panel that sits above the pedals and under the fusebox then you should be able to see the 'plate' where the thick red + feed goes into, it's not technically the fuse box and there should only be three or so wires going into it. just undo the 10mm nut and wire your feed into that. i'd advise an inline fuse though if you don't already have one.

sounds straight forward enough to me, you i could put a inline fuse on there . for both the seats?? or join them both together 2-1 then fuse then fusebox??

were abouts do the earths go??

yea join the 2 together then to an inline fuse then connect to the 10mm nut fitting.

90% of the cars interior loom is earthed under the centre console just in front of the gear shift so it's not easy to route to there without removing a few bits, so to the right of the fusebox where the bonnet release is there is a 'free' earthing point which you can use. you may need to pull the carpet back a bit and or remove the pocket tray thing to get easy access to it.

hello m8 I've found the free earthing point, theres like a thread type cable going to the chassis with a 10mm nut holding it on.

the power wires are proving more complicated....

i took off the 2 nuts holding the panel in. removed the panel to expose the fuse box. i even unclipped the fusebox from the mountings and pulled it out abit to see if i could see any 10MM nut with wires but all there is behind the fusebox is a shit load of plugs going into the back.....

what am i doing wrong??

is it black or white?

there'll be a thick red wire, much thicker than the rest. trace it to where it goes into and it should be there.

if it's got the nut fitting it'll be on the bottom bolted upwards.

the fuse box is black m8. so I've literally got to pull out the whole fuse box to find the big red wire?

na mate, it'll be fairly obvious.

you may need to lay down or get your head in the footwell and look upwards at the bottom of the fusebox area.

grr, i couldnt see it, ile have another look i spose....

No good dude, just pulled it right out and theres no 10mm nut with wires going onto it :S.

but it did give me a chance to re-wire my alarm so you cant see it ect :)

any chance of getting a picture of what you mean??

cant you just run a fused wire directly from the battery? or maybe the head units power supply?

cuz thats a really professional way of doing things isnt it. I've passed the stage of running 6 power sources from the back of the cigarette lighter via choc blocks, I'm looking for a New power supply source inside the car thats safe.

If you don't want (or can't find) the ignition switch feed, take a new supply.

To make it easy for yourself, buy a decent quality two way fuse holder and mount it as near to the battery as is practical. Take a cable directly from the battery live terminal as a supply. Then carefully (as in for safety and neatness) route two cables through the bulkhead and to the seats. Try and use the shortest route possible and use rubber grommets if you have to make any new holes. I'd earth the seats through the seat subframe where it bolts to the floor.

Make sure you use fuses and wire guage that is suitable.

SORTED, :) electric seats work WOOP, just ran a live to the battery in the end and routed it were the original wiring loom goes so its very stealth, took most of the day to route solder and hide all the wiring but they needed to work to be extra pimp.

also managed to fix my electric window from going to slow and found the cause of an annoying constant squeeking coming from the centre console.

no she drives smooth and silent I'm pretty pleased with my efforts :p
