My mates next door neighbour drives around in a Vauxhall Senator.

I still see mk3 Astras all the time. I know where I can always find 2 parked up that still used pretty regularly.

The rest though I barely see. Well someone owns a Ford Sierra on my street but that's it for that one.

such a true topic, the other day i was sitting in tariff and looked around at the vehicles around me, and 99.9 percent of all the cars were new, none older than 5 or 6 years old, u dont see any of the classics anymore which is a shame,

seen 2 different renault 5 gtts in the last week, was pretty impressed with that.

I was talking with a mate a few nights ago about how rare it is to see cars that were so common when we were growing up (late 80's early 90's)

Things like:-

Ford Sierra - No end round here, cause we're all poor.

Ford Escort MK3 & Mk4 - Saw a Mk3 3 door estate today, beige too. Got two Mk4's in the yard

Fiesta MK2 - Scarce

Vauxhall Astra mk3 - Mk3? There's millions round here

Vauxhall Nova - Was crawling under Walshc's last week

Vauxhall Senator - There's an old boy round here has one - love it!

VW MK2 Passats - Go to Boston, there's millions of Polish and Lithuanian ones driving round

Renault 5 - There's a renny 5 hatch van down the road - points for rareness?

Renault 11 - Not in a while

Renault 19 - Girl I work with had one til 6 months ago, it were fucked

Peugot 104 - Not in ages

Peugot 505 - 2 years ago, when I cut the engine out of it for my kit car

Peugot 309 - There's a few about, the rust got most

Vauxhall Cavalier - Got a 1986 Mk2 cabby down the yard - wanna buy it? No end of mk3's round here.

Volvo 340 - Think all the ones that are left have gone drifting, novice classes are full of em.

When was the last time you saw one? They all seem to have vanished or dissolved!

Also saw an ex-french police Citroen GS on the M11 today.

Our sierra.......

Sadly isnt with us no more was sold about a year ago,and the bloke who bought it had it only 3 weeks before he had it nicked and written off.

In egypt all the taxis are peugeot 505s, all with no rust and alloys!

This is a good thread.

However, isn't this just the normal way in which the car population goes about keeping itself in check? I mean, scroll through the likes of Practical Classics Magazine and you'll find a fair few cars which made up the 90% of the UK's motoring stock in the 50s, 60s and 70s but have since almost disappeared for one reason or other. The likely subscriber of such magazine will have fond memories of these cars because they remember them from their youth.

Now you too have just started to reach that point. If you’re in your mid to late 20s, the then cars in your list will have been common when you were young. Give it another 10 years, or maybe less, and they probably end up in between the pages of a magazine.

Talbot Alpines, Horizons and Sunbeams are almost an entire make of car which has just about gone. As far as the Horizons goes, there are barely more than 10 left on the road. Plus, what ever happened to the Citroen BX?

vanish as abruptly as the Nissan Bluebird.

i used to have a ZX turbo bluebird, that thing was fucking rapidio seens as it was totally stock, it had loads of cool shit as well like a switch to adjust the stiffness of the suspension, had that turbo glowing red many a time

To be honest, I hardly see any pre-04 plates anymore lol

If you don't keep a load in the back, the suspension buggers up, then you're talking a few hundred to thousands of pounds worth of swapping parts til you get the right one.

Can anyone remember the saloon Renault were offering before the Laguna? The 21 was facelifted for the '90s but I've not seen one since.

Vans are another thing. The Bedford Astramax was everywhere,i'll always remember that shape (my local breakers made a Daewoo Nexia version),but what happened to the Midi?

I remember all of those and its literally years since I've seen any of them

Volvo 340 - Thankfully hardly ever, though some young guys have bought one in Aberdeen and put a comedy exhaust on it - they drive round the beach frequently in it

this wouldnt float your boat then
